Default NHL 09 Out-Now!!!!

NHL 09 First Look - Xbox 360 News at GameSpot

EA finally adds a Career mode for NHL!

You start up in the AHL and work your way up into the NHL.

Quote:
You'll also be able to choose different types of roles as a regular skater, from a grinding, checking defenseman to a speedy, shot-taking sniper.
Quote:
In 09, you'll be able to perform one-handed dekes that will find your player pushing the puck out far to one side with either hand, then pulling it back on the fly to get around a defender or even a goalie.
Quote:
the ability to lift an opposing player's stick off of the ice with the press of a button.
6 on 6 is back for online play.

Can't wait

I hope they fix the nonstop tripping calls, that's for sure. I mean, with the skill stick system.. they are making offensive type moves more unique. Then with a defenseman, you can move that stick as well... but the clipping issues need to be dealt with.

Plus, I hope they call every single penalty more often too. In NHL 08, I didn't see any Cross Checking, Double Minors, Delay of Game (Puck over Glass), and things like that.

It's going to be a long 3-4 months if we're waiting for 09.. haha

EA said they couldn't get the code to work for Delay of Game - Over the glass. I just want the opposing team to get penalties called.

I wish they'd scrap all of those European leagues and add ECHL, OHL, QMJHL, WHL, and leagues like that. Adding the AHL last year was awesome.

I don't really care about the other leagues. One thing I want, being able to change the D independently of your forward lines. 2K had this(and still might). This would definitely add to the realism of the game.

There's not much I can ask for as far as gameplay goes... NHL 08 is solid. The penalties could use some work, for sure... and then little stuff, like broken sticks, double minors, etc., but I always hesitate to wish for stuff like that since when EA puts something new in, they seem to do it over the top (puck going out of play, hitting the post, etc). What would really be cool is if every once in a while the players gather up around the crease and push and shove after the whistle.

The main focus for this one should be the presentation... better/higher variety of cutscenes, distinctive crowd chants (heard they're incorporating that), replays/plays of the week type thing... just make it feel more like an actual broadcast.

NHL 08 might be my favorite sports game of all time. EA has done a great job reviving the series. Career mode sounds great.

Easily my favorite hockey game since the days of Super Nintendo.

The game is now 9 months old and it still feels as fresh as ever, for me.

I hope they fix the hip checks, the fighting and the lack of variety of penalties called. Some new animations would be great as well.

Ha! That's a damn good point. I'd love to see/hear the coach chew you out if you screw up on the ice.

Also, how great would it be to experience the chatter on the bench and the back-and-forth jawing between the benches while you're waiting for your line to get the call.

i hope they fix the puck over glass thing. seems like every time i take a nasty slapshot and miss the net the puck goes out of play and it gets really really annoying.

Or get hazed by fans while you're in the penalty box lol. Make sure you don't get injured either or else the game will get REALLY boring. hahaha. I dont think watching your player sit on a couch at home, watching the game on tv would be very exciting haha

They need to put in COOP, and have the game get "chippy."

Unemotional players lead to boring Hockey.
