I liked the feature a couple of years back where you were challenged to a fight. You could press the select button to accept. The overall game was not great but I liked that option. In NHL 08 Ivanans has to take about 3 slashing calls before anybody will fight.
There's slashing calls in NHL 08? Never seen em. For me when it comes to fighting in 08 it's always one of the 2 in the current defensive pairing on the ice that fights unless it's the rare occassion where one of those 3 defensemen is not on the ice. I'm currently playing a season with the Monarchs in case you're wondering what I'm basing this off of.

"Since NHL 09 features six on and six online leagues and the new be a pro mode, it only makes sense that they combine the two to create the first quality sports MMO Title right? With the EA Sports Hockey League, this holy grail of sports games is about to be achieved. The league allows you and your fellow puckheads to join a team or "guild" in nerdspeak, of up to 50 people and compete for the world championship. As with the be a pro mode, you will create your player, choose his playing style, and start with a basic set of attributes. Then you can set up a team, choosing your name, jerseys, (from the pool of NHL, AHL, and euro league options, along with a few custom jerseys) and invite friends to the squad. Only 6 players from a team can compete in any given game, but you have another 6 players from your team online, they can start a game representing your organization. The competition is broken up by skill based divisions, which you can climb by improving your team's winning percentage. If your club is struggling, relegation is a possibility. After a yet to be determined deadline, EA will take a snapshot of the league standings and select the top teams from the best division to compete in the playoffs for the cup. The winning teams and star players will receive big prizes from EA, which have yet to be revealed"

I'm so gonna get relegated, I can never stop the dude who crosses the crease and rips a backhander.
Let's just hope these cheap goals are taken out of the game.
I hate playing people do it over and over. Cross the blue line in NHL 08, towards the middle area between the face off circle and the blue line, those wrist shots almost always go in.
The main problem with video games is that people exploit things that work. And as lame as it sounds, those "wins" mean a lot for kids and no life teens/adults because it boosts their online ego.
I just hope there are less of the cheap stuff, as EA can somehow make it so you have to find different ways to score before reverting back to the same shot that worked.

That is why I stopped playing online, I was tired of that type of play. My win % was around 33. Also there should be an option online for ties, I get tired of playing shootout rounds that last 30 players.
No such thing as a cheap goal w/ manual goalie control in the 16bit days. (Long live NHL94!!!). Oh how I miss the feeling of making a save against another player that I KNOW my CPU goalie wouldn't have. I swear ever since the jump to 32bit taking control of your goalie actually HURTS your chances of stopping the puck...there's no incentive to take control of your own goalie.
I know that got a bit off topic but I just had to rant. I feel better now.
