Just try to time it correctly. Sometimes, online there is some lag, so if you pull the right stick back 1 second before the drop, you'll win it. Little things like that.

I started in Be a Pro mode and for some reason it didn't save my game. I got like 7 games into the season, decided to hang it up for the night, went back and there was nothing to load. I thought it would auto-save [since I have that turned on] but I guess not...oh well.
Also, I had the game glitch on a goal. After the goal usually there is a shot of the person that scored celebrating with another team member. Well, Brian Boyle scored on a turnover poke in from the slot and the game showed him celebrating with the opposing team's goalie (I think it was the Hershey Bear's goalie). I had a big laugh with that one.
After 3 games, got moved from the 3rd line to the 2nd. Then after 3 more, got moved to the top line. By game 12 (and going 11-1), I got called up to the Kings with Bernier and Purcell.
Playing on the 3rd line with Armstrong and Purcell has netted me 1G 2A and -3 in 4 games. There has seemed to be a lot more tripping calls made in the NHL, so I've been popped for lots of minor penalties, and more fights than I care to have had. A couple more games like this, and I'll be on the first line... in Manchester.

I went with the old "Random" selection process, and ended up in the Oilers system as an offensive defenseman.
I picked up my first assist in game #1, and the Overtime winner in game #3 for my first goal. Then in game five, I did the impossible and netted a hatty in a 10 goal blowout. Following that and my promotion to the second pair, my team got shut-out three straight games. After four straight pointless game, I scored another OT winner last night.
A couple of things I've noticed. I'm using classic controls as well, but why couldn't they allow mapping of controls like protect the puck? The reason I ask, is that I think it is FAR to powerful. Opposing forwards coming down with that and they almost are superhuman - no pokes, no hits, it seems like they are too powerful while utilizing this feature - and the AI uses it alot.
Second - I'm 9 games into my season - and have the fighting turned all the way up. Not a single fight from anyone on my team.
Third - confession here - how many people when they're on the bench, and that meter gets to full green, hits the square to force themselves on the ice? I did it for the first time last night, because with 40 seconds left and in the green, for some reason the third D pairing was on the ice. WTF?
After reading about this mode so far on a couple of different boards - while it's definately fun, realism certainly is taking a bit of a hit. I haven't read about a single person who didn't get promoted after 5-6 games or before - no matter the performance. In fact, I was promoted from the 2nd to 1st pairing after three very sub-par games that, as mentioned, were all shut-outs for the other team.

90 percent of the time I just let the coach handle it, but if I've been sitting on the bench for any abnormally long period of time, I'll occasionally press it.

When still on the 2nd line in Man, I was on the ice more than the 1st. I don't know why other maybe it's by design because, as others have pointed out, WE are the folks that bought the game to PLAY it.

I averaged 40-45 minutes ice time as a 3rd line and 2nd line defenseman. When I checked... Peter Harrold on the 1st line got like 10 minutes.
But when I got promoted to the 1st line, I stopped hitting the X button and waited for the coach to get me in... I got about 30 minutes of ice time.
It shouldn't be a big issue though. When you do things right on the ice, you can still get A's on the coach's feedback even if you hog the playing time.
so in 08 they didn't have jack's picture, so he just looked really generic with a shaved head. This year he looks the exact same...did they forget to make him look like himself?

They don't have Bernier's face either which to me is pretty astounding. I don't know how much information they can have in a downloadable roster update (which I'm sure they'll have about a month into the season or so) but hopefully there will be some faces added on that one.
I've also noticed that they've really committed to putting more of the player's names in the game. I it's really nice to hear about them give commentary about Purcell, Cliche and Crosty. Bravo.
The game has gotten near universal acclaim this year...IGN gave it a 9.0. I have to echo the question that they had: What do they do next year to top this year?
So I wear #11 (my favorite number). After scoring 2 Goals and 2 Assists with a +4 for Manchester, I got called up to the Kings! That was quite exciting =D
They gave me #13 since Kopi had 11. Plus I found reason to love the #13 because I played 13 games for Manchester before being called up
You guys were right. Along with the reviews of the game. The NHL is faster. More passing and better shots from players. In my 1st NHL game, I even got the 1st goal of the game. I just shot it from the point and it surprisingly flew in. I also netted 2 assists that game (Frolov is a wicked sniper) along with a +5 rating.
Bernier, Boyle, and Purcell also got called up... so that's cool to see. The Kings were almost dead last though, when I got called up. Did this happen for you guys too? They were 4-7-1 I think.
But now they are 6-7-1 after a nice 6-1 win over Florida and a 3-0 win over St. Louis (Way to go Bernier!)
Nagy's on the first line. O'Sullivan was demoted to the third line. The GM signed Eric Cairns and Olli Malmivaara to be his linemate. Colin White is also on the team and is pretty awesome. I cannot tell who was traded for him.
