finally some recognition
I like the tweaks they made to the gameplay, even though I find myself wristing weak shots in from the blueline when I'm just trying to get around a defender. It'll just take some getting used to, and my first impression is that it feels much more realistic. It also should be a lot harder to pull off the same cheesy goals time after time, if they do exist (which I'm sure they will... don't they always?)
As expected, this game is going to kick ass!
Has anyone else tried the Be a Pro camera with the low setting?
Well, I just downloaded it and played it. Really great. I can't believe the huge difference in 09 and 2k9. You got an A+ game in 09, and utter crap in 2k9.
Anyway, I used Crosby in Be a Pro. I gotta tell you... I was OUT OF POSITION all game long.
But my report card said, good positioning in the positive feedback section. The arrows constantly had to tell me where to go, because I kept playing defense too lol.
But I did take like 5 shots on goal, and they liked that. The only negative thing was my turnovers.
Hopefully, they are a little more harsh on the grades... because I played retarded and got good grades from the coach.
The camera was definitely a bit hard to get used to, but I'm sure it won't be a problem at all.
The 3 stars coming out at the end of the game was a great addition. I kind of wish that they didn't bother with the road team coming out like in real life. But it's very minor.
Brad Stuart's number is still #6 for some strange reason.
Either way, can't wait for the full game next week. I'm pumped.

The thing about the report card that confuses me is if you ARE that one player in Be A Pro mode, how could possibly play the whole game? In the offline version of Be A Pro, you won't playing the entire game, would you?
I guess won't know that "little" stuff until the game is actually out.
BTW, why hasn't Gamepro or IGN reviewed the game yet?

You apparently won't be playing all game offline. You'll take your turn on the bench and receive feedback from the coach, then take your shift again.
The grades did seem to be forgiving, which I liked. I'd rather turn off the arrow and play the position correctly on my own. I don't think the game is perfectly accurate in that respect, so I'd rather not be penalized if you have to cover for the AI or something.
Fighting seemed to be mediocre, but anything is better than last year.

For offline season mode, you'll be on the bench when it's not your shift, like Chartrand mentioned. That's when the coach tells you what to do next or just say what you're doing right and/or wrong. I personally hope it doesn't get repetitive as hell, if you know what I mean.
Example: When your shift ends...
1st time on the bench. The coach says. "Shoot more!"
2nd time: "Pass more!"
3rd time: Shoot more!
4th time: "Stop shooting too much!"
5th time: "You're not shooting enough!"
As for online play, like our LGK team. We're all locked in on a position pretty much. If you're the Left Winger, then you will always be a Left Winger in the "Be a Pro" mode with the same camera angles and whatnot.
Chartrand, you liked the fighting? I thought it was stupid when I went down in 2 punches. I understand that no one buys the game for it's fighting system, but they don't try at all to make it somewhat realistic.
I noticed the Y button = Hook and not Slash anymore. I was definitely afraid that the A button = Stick lift... would be overused and abused but it's actually quite hard to time it correctly, which is great!
And last but not last, back to you Unfiltered. I think Game Reviewing sites cannot release their review until the day of the release (or at least the day before). Even for Madden 09 this year. I don't think their release came out until the day before. They probably aren't allowed to do advance reviews.

Well...I thought it was mediocre. On the classic one-to-ten scale I'd give it a three, compared to last year which would have been a 1.4. I think it is an improvement, but you could have the players conducting a slap fight and it would have been an improvement on 08.
I do like that it doesn't take 40 punches to take someone down, but it is still awkward at best.

Ahh, cool. I've been treating this release like a heavily anticipated Summer movie: read nothing, spoil nothing. Well, mostly I didn't want to add to this already looong off-season, because the last thing that I need is one more reason to say "when the **** is September getting here?!?"
When you get back to the bench, are the comments verbalized or just text on the screen? I don't to get yelled at by the coach.

I believe it's text on the screen, like the pointers you get between periods.
I can't believe that no one is talking about how much better the graphics look. It does seem like a sizable step up from NHL 08...look at the mesh on the back of the jerseys for cripes sake!
3 stars....they were doing that as early as NHL 96 or 97 for the PC. Actually there are times a visiting player will come out for 3 stars. Doesn't happen alot, but it does happen.
Damn, Be-A-Pro is addicting. So fun, and so much more rewarding than scoring in a regular game. Just finished first game, used Zetterberg: 2 assists, A+ grade for all categories. Can't wait for the release! Go LGK PS3 Team!
Ok, I am starting to get irritated with the shoot-out. Two shooters in a row and Osgood makes the save and then pulls the puck into the net with his stick. It looks like the AI is trying to bat the puck away but puts it straight into the net. Anyone else experience this? Or am I the only one lame enough to have to go to a shootout? LOL! My Be A Pro is always A+ Position, A+ Team, F Stats.
