Boy Saves Sister from Moose Attack with Skills Learned in Warcraft Video Game
This 12 year-old Norwegian boy saved his sister and himself from a moose attack using skills he picked up in the online role playing game 'World of Warcraft.'
Hans Jørgen Olsen and his sister got into a spot of trouble when they encroached on the territory of one of these antlered cold weather staples (otherwise known as a moose). When the beast went on the offensive, Hans knew the first thing he had to do was taunt it so that it would leave his sister alone and she could run to safety. "Taunting" is a move one uses in World of Warcraft to get monsters off of the less-well-armored team members.
Once he was a target, Hans remember another skill he'd picked up at level 30 in 'World of Warcraft' -- he feigned death. The moose lost interest in the inanimate Hans and wandered off into the woods. When he was safely alone Hans ran back home to share his tale of video game-inspired survival.
Make fun of video games all you want, but if one can teach you a skill that saves your (and your sister's) life, then we'd say that was a video game worth playing.

Too bad this game will never teach him how to get laid.
Im not sure about that, I read a story about a year ago about some chick that traded sex in the real world for some flying horse in the game... so there is hope for him.

Heh, great story. Did he kick his sister out of his group afterwards for being a noob? Maybe she wasn't spec'd right?
Other good uses for WoW:
-The CD makes a great coaster.
-Stirring up a **** storm at its mere mention in any other MMO.
-Eliminating altogether those pesky promiscuous advances of the opposite sex.
-The "Shatner the Shaman" and "Mr. T the Warhawk" commercials were pretty funny. Can't Youtube while at work, maybe someone else can link them.
Good on the little dork,,, but maybe he should have been carrying a rifle and practicing his hunting skills if he is going to be out in the wilderness, instead of engaging in some life-sucking video game.

Ok, that story was not really gameplaying connected imo, but it is a proven fact that playing games can be positive.
Many studies have confirmed, that kids who are playing games, tend to be better at solving problems (hey, not just PC related problems! ) in their lives, as grown ups. They can think faster and remain more composed, logical reasoning works better.
Of course that's all about average people and the kids were playing mostly games where you actually have to think at least a little.

Concur on the positive effects on eye-hand and problem solving, but I've also been told repeatedly that more than 2 hours a day is negative. I see that with my own son. If I let him play more than 2 hours stright on any day, the next day he can't focus and he's nasty angry all day.

Hm, I guess it depends. When I was in elementary school 142 years ago, I played games 15 hours per day. I did manage to finish the school without a single B grade (yeah, I was nerdy). Hmmm... Ok, except the behavior, I always had that one rated as "satisfactory". So you are probably right.
