About This Page: This is a discussion on Gamer Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Well I got the red ring of death today when I tried to play Saints Row...Had the Xbox 360 for almost 2 months and now this happens...goddamnit
lol sucks for you.
Seriously though, the XBox is a POS in terms of hardware design. I know a guy at Best Buy that says at least 20% are returned because of mechanical issues.
The game selection and online play is its best features.
I almost grabbed the PS3 80gig but still not enough games and no worthwhile Bluray movies out today. I'll get it pretty soon I imagine.
I got the red ring of death back in November 06- i had only owned mine for about 5 months. Luckily, I had purchased mine at Costco. I returned it for a full refund no questions asked and purchased a new one from them for about $20 cheaper than I had paid for the first one. The new one is starting to lock up on me lately- it may be time to return this one and see about getting #3.
Well I bought mine used at GameStop and I purchased their 1 year warranty so guess where I am going today. I know this type of thing is covered by Microsoft and is still under warranty with them as well.
Funny thing is when I bought this Xbox, I got it used since someone returned it without even opening the package...so for me it was really brand new in box
As far as technology goes, there is no doubt the PS3 is way above the other two systems. It is well worth the price tag, especially when more games start coming out.
Fisch, there are some great titles on Blu-ray at the moment.

It's a shame, the new NHL games look pretty promising. There's no way in hell I'm dishing out any cash for a 360 until there's a significant fix in the hardware... and they've phased out the original xbox so quickly it looks like I'll be spending time updating rosters on NHL 2K6 instead of getting a new game this year

hey do you need the receipt to return it because i got mine as a gift and the person that got it for me lost the receipt.
Call Microsoft at 1-800-4MY-XBOX they'll ask for info and the serial number. I've heard they don't even require a receipt the problem is so bad, the info they need will be from the serial number but don't hold me to that. (this is for red-ring of death issues)
Remove the harddrive if you want to save your data.

Not this year for games yet.
360 still rulez.
So far this year EA sports games have been 60 frames/sec for 360 and 30 frames/sec for PS3. We will see about NHL 08.
Has anyone tried the Bioshock demo yet? Played it last night. The graphics are amazing.
Like evilgeek I am on my second one and returned it to Costco at about the same time. I have had no problems with this one. I am however a little more careful about keeping it cool though.

A three year warranty is not good enough? EA's NHL series is also completely different from previous versions with the dual analog control. Can't wait for this year's version.
That sucks, I'm on my second one at the moment being careful with it, keeping it cool etc. My friend got his first day during launch and has had no problems with his and he plays the thing every damn day.
Mine died on me this past Saturday. Apparently, Microsoft has by all accounts fixed the RROD problem by adding an additional heat sink to the motherboard. So when my coffin gets here tomorrow its off to get refurbished with an additional heat sink. I am hoping that I get it back by sept 11 so I can play some NHL08.
And they didn't ask for anything buy my serial number for the warranty on the RROD.
Maybe I'll even get lucky and get a new one with an HDMI port.... probably not.

Mine has been going strong for about a year now. KNOCK ON WOOD!

If it does not have the additional heat sink, it will fail at some point. It is not a matter of if its a matter of when.
The word is that the soldering that they used in manufacture was not very good and it cannot withstand the heat produced and then the subsequent contracting when it cools.
Consoles made from July 07 and on, as well as the elites, will have the additional heat sink and better soldering.
I hope that your 360 is an exception, but I think its only a matter of time.
I've had my 360 for nearly a year and a half. How often do you guys play? Mine is still going strong but I don't play it too much. At most maybe a few hours a week. My son plays it and total it probably gets about 10 hours a week.
