Take-Two encompasses 2K Sports, The GTA series (Rockstar Games) and a hostile move by EA here could take away some of the choices we now have in the world of gaming.
There are some sports titles that come out annually, it's really not important to me which one is better, what is important is that we have a CHOICE! If one doesn't suit your taste, BUDGET, or platform, you can try the other.
Losing the options is probably not something the people making the deals have in mind, but to consumers it can be all-important.
I agree with Take Two that EA undervalued them. Wait until a day after GTA IV ships, then make an offer. Dropping this kind of cash is a no brainer for EA, to wipe out any competition they have in the Sports world. If it happens, it would suck for gamers, but EA will be able to compete against Activision/Blizzard with firm footing.
This is a trend our CEO has been telling the investment community for years in the gaming industry. The big companies will buy up the smaller companies and will get bigger. We're still a $1 billion dollar company, but now it seems like we're one of the little fish in the pond again...
Actually, I work at THQ - thus one of the smaller fish in the pond. Still a Top 5 to Top 7 company, but small compared to these behemoths.
WCW vs NWO on N64 by THQ, best game ever

I was saying you worked for THQ, one of my favorites, definitely a dream job.
Quoted for Truth. THQ has quietly put themselves amongst the very top companies in terms of game development over the last few years. I am insanely envious of Drum4Pigs' employment over there.
And here's hoping Take-Two holds firm. More options is a win for us consumers.
