About This Page: This is a discussion on Gamer Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Apparently the 360 is dropping $50 as early as next week in Canada. Could this be a sign of a looming price war?

The so called "war" was over when Microsoft released Xbox 360 a year before the PS3. Sony's doing a good job of marketing the PS3 as a cheap Blu-Ray player with the added bonus of videogames, but they have a lot of catching up to do. Name one "killer app" that Sony has that you can't find on Xbox 360 - I can't think of one. Whereas you already mentioned the hardware seller Halo 3. Nintendo has been destroying the competition both on Console and Handheld since the Wii came out, and since they upgraded the DS to DS Lite.
When the DS and PSP systems were new, retailers called the DS "Dog $h1t" for a year while the PSP performed fairly well. Ever since the DS Lite came out, the tables have been turned and now Sony is trying hard to revitalize it's own pile of crap.
Nintendo is on top in both areas. Maybe Microsoft is lowering its price point to steal the "mass market" dollars (i.e. mom & dad) from Nintendo, not Sony - just a guess.
I'd post the NPD Hardware sales data to back this up, but I'm not at work and I probably already deleted the spreadsheets from my email.
Here's the hardware sales data I was referencing for the U.S. market. Keep in mind that Xbox 360 was released a year before PS3 and Wii, which have both been on the market for two Holidays. Nintendo has almost completely caught up to Microsoft, but Sony is still far behind.
