What's surprising to me is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest. You can still get $50/$100 seats as of today. The tickets have been on sale for a couple of weeks now. If this were a UFC event, those would have been gone in an hour. Regardless of the fights. I'm really thinking this event might not go over too well. I'm gonna buy tickets and pray it doesn't cancel.
Gina Carano weighed in 4.5 pounds over the limit! That's some professional org you got going there Gary. The biggest night in your history and 1 of your star fighters can't make wieght for her fight. No excuse for that whatsoever.
Kimbo showing a bit of ground skills tonight, still needs plenty of work though.
He looked AWFUL. If he was fighting someone who knew what to do on the ground, he would have been destroyed. Thompson did nothing to secure his position. Made NO attempt to get to mount. He rolled onto his side thinking that would give him more power. He could have kneed the HELL out of Kimbo's sides. That fight was an absolute travesty. It should have been stopped at the end of the 2nd. Considering two of the other stoppages, the fact that they'd let a guy drop elbows on someone else for a good minute tells me all I need to know. Shameful.
Pretty disappointing event. First hour is all kinds of fluff with 2 fights and maybe 2 minutes of actual fighting. The MMA glossary bit with Frank Shamrock was a good idea, but poorly executed. For such a big event on such a big stage, it was pretty disappointing that Carano didn't put much effort into training camp. I'm glad she had to give part of her purse to her opponent.
The Lawler/Smith match got entertaining, but have to agree with Smith that he should have been given the full 5 minute recovery period before being declared unable to continue. Also curious why Lawler stopped with the body kicks after the first minute or so of the second round. He was tearing up Smith with those.
Kimbo/Thompson was better than I expected, but I was expecting Kimbo to knock out a tomato can, so that's really not saying much. Talk about protecting your meal ticket. It was an early stoppage. Thompson was hurt, but he was hurt almost as bad in the second round and he managed to turn that around when it got to the ground. Kimbo didn't eat a lot of major punishment during those 2+ minutes at the end of the second round, but he did get plenty of elbows and little punches that went completely undefended. The ref kept the fight going for Kimbo, and I thought he could have given Thompson the benefit of the doubt before he stopped the fight, especially considering that Thompson was still on his feet.
At least the last three matches were fairly entertaining, but it's pretty disappointing that the first nationally televised MMA event ended with the last two matches being booed for early stoppages. And while the main event was somewhat entertaining, I agree with SmytheKing that that fight was a joke. For it to be the headliner of any MMA card is embarrassing.

Well, I posted that in the first round, before he tired out. He pulled off a sweep, and he also managed to stand up a couple times. As the fight went on it got a lot worse, and yes, the end of the second round was.... odd.
Wow, was that event a joke or what. Great work on calling the stoppages, refs!

At least we have Faber/Pulver and Miguel Torres tonight on Versus. Looking forward to this one. Too bad it wasn't this card on network tv yesterday. The more I think about that EliteXC card last night, the more it pisses me off.
It cracked me up that one of the analysts kept referring to Thompsons ear as an "alien life form". I can't complain about the stoppage in that fight as the ref wasn't reacting to the blood from the ear but the fact that Thompsons eyes were rolling around in his head...again. He always did have a weak chin.
I don't think we'll ever see Kimbo matched against a well rounded fighter.
The EliteXC show wasn't horrible, but it was disappointing. Gina looked like crap in the 2nd because she didn't train properly. Lawler / Smith was good, too bad about the stoppage, but Smith has been around long enough to know that you can't tell the doc that you can't see. Kimbo got exposed BAD. Anyone with half decent cardio and wrestling/BJJ skills would embarass Kimbo in less than a round.
Looking forward to Pulver / Faber tonight.

I have satellite and the East Coast feed, so don't read below if Faber/Pulver is supposed be on at 9pm PST.
It really is too bad network TV couldn't have shown Torres/Maeda and Faber/Pulver. Torres/Maeda was just wicked. I hope there's a rematch, because that was just awesome to watch. Punches, kicks, knees, down to the ground and both trying submissions at the same time. You can't not be an MMA fan after a display like that. Faber/Pulver was really entertaining, too. I kept waiting for Faber to drop his right hand and give Little Evil an opening, but Pulver wasn't able to land a really clean shot. The first two bouts kind of blew, but when you close the show with Torres/Maeda and Faber/Pulver (on free tv, no less), you can't really bitch about anything. Great wins by Torres and Faber.
I agree, the last 2 fights tonight were an hour or so of amazing action. Torres is such a monkey out there and I mean that in a good way. So slippery and determined whether it's on his feet or on the ground. What made both the last two fights great for me is the constant flow that included all fighters being willing to trade and just as quickly fight it out on the floor. Seeing such well rounded fighters is so refreshing in an event of this magnitude.

Pulver / Faber was a real good scrap. I had never seen Uriah fight before. He's god a real good all around game. Pulver looked great, but didn't seem to have that killer instinct needed to win a belt. There were a few times where he landed a couple good combos that seemed to rock Faber a little, and he was too slow coming in with the follow up combo. All in all a good fight though, and Jens looked better than he has in a while.
I would like to see Kimbo with Fedor or even Aleks. They kept posting Kimbos MMA record as 2-0. Give me a break the first two fights horrible against horrible figthers. Kimbo is a good striker, but the MMA stops there. I know Bas is working with him but the hype that he gets is pissing be off. I was not happy with the show, I am glad that I DVR'd it.

That would probably be the equivalent of me vs. Fedor.
