Not a good way for things to start for Affliction. Hopefully they can find another venue, but I still
A little surprising they cut Din, since one of his 2 losses (in a row) was due to injury.
Makes sense for the UFC. They have a huge fighter pool and need to cut some of these guys, otherwise they are obliged to put them on PPV undercards when maybe they dont' really deserve it because of their salaries.
Cutting Din is surprising, but at the same time LW is such a deep division.

In an article over on SI.com, Josh Gross is claiming that the payroll for the Affliction show is going to be in the $6 million range. I just don't see how they can pull this off.

Sure they can. No venue yet. No tickets being sold. So main event signed. What's the big deal? It's not like it's a month and a half away or anything.
Leben has been sentanced to 35 days in jail. Bisping fight apparently off now. Nice to see the justice system rewards those who are (fairly) honest and try to do the right thing.

I can see them pulling it off. They'll just lose a lot of money in the process!

Too bad he's not an underage hollywood starlet in LA. He'd have gotten like three hours in prison.
So Frank Mir beats a guy who had never fought in the UFC and gets a title shot!
HUH????
While it doesn't make a lot of sense, really, who else is there? There is no true contender in the HW division right now. Cro Cop, Sylvia & Randy are gone. AA is in limbo. Vera & GG just lost. Lesnar & Velasquez are nowhere near ready. Werdum is 1-1 in the UFC and has already lost to Big Nog before. Herring is 2-2 in the UFC with one of those being a loss to Big Nog. Kongo was close until he lost to Heath.
Mir is coming off 2 submission victories within the 1st 2 minutes of the fight, and he never truly lost his belt. Sounds close enough to a contender to me.
While these 2 are tied up in TUF, maybe someone else can string together a couple of wins and actually establish the next #1 contender.

Not me seeing as how those 2 victories were against a professional wrestler and a K-1 Kick Boxer. There's no way that those 2 wins make him a title contender, especially since he got smoked by Brandon Vera.
What the UFC should have done was not name the title fight just yet. They won't fight till the winter anyways. They should have let the Andre Arlovski situation sort itself. He is really the only legit contender right now. If he doesn't sign them make the Big Nog-Mir fight.

You're not wrong ASU.
But I think the UFC should've just kept Nog out of the show completely. Have 2 guys coach opposite each other, then fight for the right to fight for the title. Or just have 2 random coaches, not even necessarily in the same weight class (like TUF 2). The show should go back to being more about the fighters and less about the coaches.
Then again, what if the AA situation sorts itself out in the wrong way. Then you are still left without a valid #1 contender. Vera would have to throw together another small win streak, and you'd have to find someone for Mir to fight, whereby if Mir wins, the fans feel he beat someone of high enough calibre to earn a shot. It's just too frickin complicated now. And it's all Randy's fault!!!
I, like you, don't actually believe Mir is worthy of a shot right now. I just believe that he's the closest thing they've got to a contender (outside of AA, who may or may not be done with the UFC) right now, and people have gotten title shots because of less.

While I firmly believe that Dana is right in that Tito's time has passed and he's not longer the amazing fighter he plays himself up to be, Dana really has to stop badmouting everybody. It's just so childish and unbecoming of the president of a company.

Did you know that Frank WAS the UFC Heavyweight champ already? And that his loss to Vera was a speed bump on his comeback after a bad motorcycle wreck? Not saying he fully deserves a title shot right now, but really in that division and 2 win streak is pretty good! And come on....he knee barred king kong for gods sake! That's worth it right there! haha
