Wow. just wow, I've had a few hours to think about this card and I still can't believe Anderson Silva beat Dan Henderson so easily. Yea, the Spyda looked like he was in trouble in the first with Hendo on top raining down hammerfists, but to be honest Anderson never looked like he was going to get finished. He did a great job of avoiding being mounted by an Olympic Class wrestler and just survived.
On the feet, I thought Henderson was played outclassed. He landed some pretty good shots but Silva was just so pinpoint with his strikes. He killed Dan standing up and when he dropped him with that knee that was the beginning of the end.
Hendo was rocked but it looked like he recovered well, I'm really surprised how easily Silva took Hendo's back and choked him out. Let's be honest, Hendo is a top 10 fighter in 2 different weight classes and Silva finished him pretty easily.
All in all I thought this was an average card, I'll post up a matchmaking fight card soon. I was really surprised how good Koscheck looked standing up with Hazelett. I was disappointed that Fitch didn't finish Wilson, just have those 2 fight Karo.
Herring did a good job of controlling Kongo, I really thought that fight would end in a stoppage, kind of disappointed it didn't.
Anyways, Anderson Silva is the man, top 3 pound for pound fighter if not #1.

Great performance from Anderson Silva. Had to go through adversity there in the first, came back strong in in the 2nd round and just dominated one of the best P4P fighters of all time in Dan Henderson.
As for who Silva will defend his belt against next, I have no idea. I'd guess that the closest guy to a title shot is Yushin Okami. Okami is a powerful wrestler with some decent/solid stand up. These 2 guys fought before during a Rumble on the Rock card, Okami "won" via illegal blow. I think Okami is a tough matchup for the Spyda, but Silva would still be the overwhelming favorite. Barring a crossover of Paulo Fihlo to the UFC I don't see any other true contender yet. My dream matchup would be Anderson Silva Vs. Robbie Lawler. How exciting would that scrap be?!
Heath Herring
The Texas Crazy Horse showed some nice skills adapting to Kongo's gameplan. He was clearly surprised that Kongo went for a few takedowns and was successful. Herring recovered well and had some nice transitions into side control/mount.
I thought this fight would end in some sort of stoppage, disappointed that Herring didn't finish the fight but a W is a W and it wasn't a dull fight by any means. Fabricio Werdum and Brandon Vera are set to fight soon. So those 2 potential matchups are out. How about a fight against Tim Sylvia? Or Gabriel Gonzaga? I think either of those fights work and could be compelling.
Chris Leben
Nice performance by Leben, took some heavy shots but hung in there and finished Sakara. I'm not a big Leben fan but I give him credit for always bringing the fight. He never backs down and he does look like he's in better shape now than before.
I wouldn't mind seeing a fight with Nate Marquardt. It would be a nice step up in competition for Leben and a bit of a tough matchup for Marquardt as Leben is a pretty tough SOB.
Yushin Okami
Dominating performance by Okami, Tanner is a washed up fighter but it was good to see Okami finally finish a fight. I think the UFC will give him Anderson Silva. Okami has a nice resume, not a great one. But I think he is closer to a title fight than anybody else.
Jon Fitch
I've been disappointed in the last 2 Jon Fitch performances. Sure he's looked good but he hasn't finished a fight against a quality opponent. Chris Wilson is an IFL vet, so he's a proven guy, but I think Fitch clearly outclasses him but he couldn't finish him.
Fitch is very well rounded and he's a big 170 pounder. I think he would give GSP a lot of trouble and would tool Matt Serra. Does he deserve a title shot? I'm not sure, 2 solid wins(Chris Wilson and Diego Sanchez) looks good on the resume but he hasn't been "impressive". I think Fitch should fight Karo provided he gets past Thiago Alves. I think the winner of Fitch-Karo would be the true #1 contender.
Josh Koscheck
Impressive standup performance from Kos. I thought his striking was a bit wild at times(the overhand right especially), but his punching was clearly more crisp and polished. He double jabbed a ton and changed levels effectively. His wrestling was impressive as ever, still has the best pound for pound takedowns in MMA I think. Also showed some solid BJJ defense as well, Koscheck keeps improving and improving, that kick he landed was awesome and he did well to finish the fight.
I think Kos is a future title holder at 170, I don't think he deserves a title shot yet either, but he's close. I'd like to see a fight between him and the loser of GSP-Serra. Or if Fitch fights GSP, then let Karo fight Kos.
Those are the fights that we saw, I'll make some quick comments on the guys who won in the dark matches who I think are still relevant.
Andre Arlovski
All signs point to Arlovski leaving the UFC. Disappointing as there are some matchups involving Arlovski that I'd love to see(Vera, Herring etc.) If he finds his way to EliteXC look for them to set up their first HW title fight with Big Foot Silva.
Diego Sanchez
Sounds like Diego dominated his fight. I still think he's a one dimensional fighter, but his wrestling is solid and he had good ground and pound/submissions. I think the UFC will slowly try and build him back up. A fight with Chris Wilson would be fine. Maybe a fight with Burkman?
Okami looked good. Tanner looked okay as well before he ate that knee. I hope the loss doesn't discourage him too much and he keeps working on the comeback.
Maybe it's just me, but Fitch didn't seem to have much fire in him last night. But yeah, him and Karo has to happen now to determine the #1 contender spot.
I actually hate Chris Leben but I did think he looked like he was in better shape than ever and he did a good job in that fight. Sakara can complain all he wants, but he took several clean shots to the head without defending himself. Good stoppage IMO.
Herring / Kongo was a good fight as well. Herrings cardio seemed great, and for the most part, Kongo did seem improved on the ground.
I was in utter shock that Silva finished Hendo before the end of the 2nd. I was really expecting Hendo to find a way to GNP his way to a win, but for a guy like him to not even make it out of the 2nd round, wow. I think the UFC should really rethink their position on Matt Lindland, because after Okami (who really should get the next shot), there is no one else left, except maybe Robbie Lawler.
I went to sleep after the main event because I was exhausted, so I haven't seen the Kos fight yet. But I am glad to hear Arlovski finished O'Brien and hopefully he finds a way to stay in the UFC.

Dana compared Okami to Lyoto Machida in the post fight press conference. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Their styles aren't exactly the same but the way they approach the fight game is. I think Okami would be a good matchup for Silva but it is hard to see anybody beating him.

Yea I'm not sure why Sakara was complaining. He was getting bombed on. When he looks at the tape he'll be glad that fight got stopped.

I'd love to see Matt Lindland fight Anderson Silva. The only thing is, after seeing Silva beat Henderson so easily, I don't really like Lindland's chances. Sure its a tough matchup but Anderson Silva is just hitting on all cylinders right now. Lawler would be a fun fight to watch but I think Anderson Silva wins it pretty easy, Lawler's striking while powerful is very sloppy, Silva would just pick him apart.
Maybe a year from now, after GSP cleans up some of these WWs(hopefully) he moves up to fight Anderson Silva. I'd love to see that scrap.

I'm anxious to see what weight class Henderson plans to campaign at next. He seems to think of himself as a 205 guy, even though 185 LBs is his more natural weight and the road to a title shot is a bit easier at MW.
If he stays at 185, I'd like to see him fight the winner of Franklin-Lutter(hopefully Franklin). Hendo-Franklin is one of those PRIDE-UFC fights that all fans have wanted to see. I think that would be an exciting fight with 2 big names in the sport.
If Hendo decides to go back up to 205, making a fight is rather difficult as all the top guns have pending fights. Maybe the winner of Machida-Ortiz? Or a fight with Rashad Evans. Either of those fights work for me.
Cheick Kongo
Kongo showed some nice takedown skills, this was certainly the most well roudned Kongo we have ever seen. Ironic that he lost... He's still viable HW and I'd like to see him Gabriel Gonzaga. That could be an exciting fight. If the UFC really wants to test his wrestling a fight with Jake O'Brien makes sense as well.

I think Hendo would destroy Franklin. I like Rich, but I seem to think of him as an Evan Tanner guy, in the right place at the right time to be champ, but nothing terribly special
I'm mad as hell Paulo Filho refuses to fight Silva because they're training partners.
I'll be interested to see how Bisping does at 185.
That said, I am a definitive Heath Herring mark (I love the whole black hat and duster get up for him and the corner, plus I like playing him on the PrideFC game) and think if he can get over the Noguiera hump, he'd be a marketable champ.
Really wanted to see Chuck and Shogun throw down. Wonder who replaces Shogun?
Warning: The following is total speculation and has no basis in facts or evidence. It is just a hypothesis and a point of discussion.
Now that I got that out of the way. . .
Any possibility that Shogun was hardcore on the roids over in Pride? I know we've heard the innuendo and allegations, but what are the odds that a guy comes over and injures his knee twice, SEVERELY, doing the things that he's been doing for a long time now. One of the assumed benefits of steroids has always been that it allows your muscles to recover in a quicker period of time and, therefore, allowing you to train harder and get results sooner.
If he's not allowed to use them now, isn't it fair to question that this could be leading to a breakdown of some of his ligaments? Now he's overtraining and his body can't handle it?
Again, this has no evidence to support, I just wanted to throw it out there as a possibility.
As to who Liddell could fight? Just make it Alexandar and get it over with. Hell, it's four months away, what about Silva? You want to talk about a main event. . .that would sell more PPV's than they have ever had. London or not.
I think the UFC has to look outside its own roster to replace Shogun. Jackson, Griffin, Evans, Thiago Silva, Machida, Ortiz, Jardine, Wanderlei Silva, Sokoudjou and Alexander are all tied up right now, there's no one left, unless someone moves up or down a weight class. Anyone know what Little Nog's status is? Arona? Alexander, maybe, depending on how his UFN bout goes.

But, I thought M-1 was going to overtake the UFC as the #1 MMA org? Did all those posters on Sherdog lie to me? lol
I'm not all that surprised. DREAM and World Victory Road were both announced after M-1, yet they've both managed to organize events already (WVR had theirs last week, DREAM later this month). And yet M-1 has only signed 1 fighter and co-promoted 1 event. They can't get their s*** together, so Fedor is going elsewhere.
