This just in. . .

Wanderlei signs with UFC though this link doesn't confirm it.

I just got an email from the UFC about it. Like this article says, he's likely to face Liddell at the end of the year. Of course, if Chuck loses to Jardine. . .that might change things.

EDIT: Here is the release:
http://www.411mania.com/MMA/news/585...s-with-UFC.htm

Quote:
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Dana White, UFC® President, today announced he has signed the mixed martial arts superstar Wanderlei Silva, and that UFC fans could see the Brazilian legend fight by the end of this year.

"This is the pinnacle of my seven year career in this company," said White. "I'm so excited to have Wanderlei under contract. He grabbed my arm and looked me in the eyes like one of his pre-fight staredowns and he said ‘I'm gonna fight so good for you, you're gonna see the best fights ever from Wanderlei Silva.'"

Has anyone heard anything about what is happening with Pride? I know Dana has said the organization is a mess, but I thought they were going to keep doing shows. Is the UFC just gonna shut it down completely, or is it just a matter of getting all the s*** sorted out before doing anything more?

Been so long since Vera's fought, no clue what to expect against Tim "I Back Away Slowly" Silvia.

That's pretty much what I've heard at this point. I'm sure there is a TON of things to be fixed though. For one, they don't have all the contracts. For another, they need to figure out who they have and what they're going to do with them. I'm betting it's at least summer of next year before there's another Pride show. I would HOPE that they'd make it a special one though after having waited so long to get everything worked out. Maybe they have Fedor signed by then and that's his debut? Who knows.

Great news. Here's hoping Wanderlei gets by his first opponent and Chuck beats Jardine. We've all been waiting for a Wanderlei-Chuck fight for a long long time.

I've heard the same things Smyth posted. There were a number of contracts that were "non-transferable", so the UFC has been trying to get all that in order. I think Dana put his plans for PRIDE on the back burner trying to get the UFC in Europe, signing individual fighters who became FAs, and doing all his regular promoting in the US. Hopefully they get it figured out soon. The LW grand prix was supposed to start this summer and never went down.

I'm sure there will still be a PRIDE is some capacity. There's too much money to be made in Japan for Dana.

Yea, I'm hoping they have Vera fight Arlovski. It'll make for a much more interesting and explosive fight.

UFC should put Sylvia in against a guy like Heath Herring or even a Fabricio Werdum. If Cro Cop doesn't kill Chiek Kongo, that would be a plausible fight as well.

If the UFC signs Fedor there is no way his debut will be in PRIDE. I guarantee you he will make his debut in the US. Remember for Dana, the US market is still his main money maker. If he puts Fedor on a PPV in PRIDE, he'll lose a lot of PPV buyers because of the time difference.

I think most if not all big fights/title fights will be in the US. The Rampage-Hendo fight is an exception and remember its still being put on by the UFC not PRIDE. It'll have the cage featured, UFC branding all over the place, and UFC production.

That's true. Maybe I'm just hoping that for the RE-imagining of Pride that Dana puts on a big first show to "throw them a bone". Will it happen? Not sure. You're probably right about Fedor debuting out here (Vegas anyone?), but it's not totally out of the question that Dana would bring their conquering hero back for the first show there right?

As far as Arlovski/Vera/Sylvia, I think all three of them have some serious answering to do. Neither of them has really done anything of note in the past year or so. Of course, Vera by his own doing and bad management.

I mean, EVERYONE loves Arlovski, but he's looked really poor since he lost the belt. Well, poor might be the wrong word. Tentative is better. Either way, he needs to really step up and show what he can do again.

Vera. . .WTF. I mean, the kid was exciting, brash, talented. Just as he starts moving up and getting some backing, he disappears because of his contract. It was real poor timing on his part and I'll be interested to see how much it affected him. You can train all you like, but it won't get you ready for the real thing. Instincts and nerves take over in real life, so he'll have to get that back. I think if they put him in there with a guy that's too tough, he might get in trouble quick.

That brings me to Sylvia. Ugh. Here was a guy that used to be pretty tough. He's actually got some talent. He's got a good sprawl. He's decent on the ground. He's got good standup. He's huge. His problem seemed to be that he was soooooo afraid of losing that belt, that he didn't want to risk anything. Lets see if he can switch that around and be what he used to be. I don't really like the guy, but he can be a tough matchup.

Just a heads up. . .

Anyone who has purchased the UFC onDemand stuff, they now have Pride fights available on there. Just saw that Cro Cop v. Wanderlei is up there right now. Kind of cool that they're doing that. At least, I know I'm excited about it.

EDIT: and they've got Rampage vs. Arona, Rampage vs. Shogun, Henderson vs. Silva, and a bunch of others. I'm giddy as a school girl.

To be honest, I think it is out of the question that Fedor would fight in PRIDE again. If he signs let's say in November. I'll guarantee you his first fight will be on the December card against either Randy or Gonzaga. I think at this point PRIDE fans will be happy to just see a card. Get some of those lightweights they have in there for the LW grand prix and that will get a good showing at the gate.

Yea, all three of them have a lot work ahead of them to get to that title shot.

Yup, very very tentative. Mostly that fight against Verdum. The Pe Da Pano fight ended far to quickly to really judge anything.

Yup, hit the nail on the head right there. Syliva basically started fighting not to lose rather than fighting to win.

Speaking of Fedor, where the hell is Josh Barnett. I've read that he is waiting for Fedor to sign and he'll follow him.

Fedor has looked unbeatable against damn near everybody, but I really think Barnett would give him trouble. He hasn't fought a style like Barnett, a really really big grappler who is good on his feet.Hope that fight happens soon.

Dailymotion also has a decent number of PRIDE fights.

My favorite fight in the history of MMA is Shogun-Nogueira. If you haven't seen that fight, do it right now!

Vera's deal is for 6 fights.

http://ufcjunkie.com/

Quote:
UFC heavyweight Brandon Vera (8-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC), who will soon return to the organization after sitting out nearly a year due to issues with his former manager, has signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC.

The fighter confirmed the contract while on Fight Network Radio.

Vera is now under new management after firing Mark Dion, owner of the City Boxing gym in San Diego, Calif. When their relationship soured, Vera went unbooked for recent UFC shows. The 29-year-old Californian hasn’t fought since a TKO of Frank Mir at UFC 65 in November.

Last week, though, the UFC took the rare step of issuing an official release stating Vera would soon return to the organization.

While a potential showdown with Andrei Arlovski has long been rumored, UFC president Dana White stated last week in a UFC 74 conference call that Vera could face former heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia in his next fight. Sylvia is currently recovering from staph infection that hit Pat Miletich’s training camp in Iowa.

Back in July, Vera confirmed that he had been offered a chance to fight then-champion Sylvia at UFC 68. With Vera tied up in the dispute with his manager, though, UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture came of out of retirement and instead fought Sylvia. The 43-year-old scored a unanimous-decision victory to reclaim the heavyweight belt.

Vera made his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 2 with a win over Fabiano Scherner. He’s also scored UFC victories over Justin Eilers (UFC 57), Assuerio Silva (UFC 60) and Mir.

Wow. . .six fight deal huh? Be curious to know what the per fight average is. It's going to be really interesting to see how Dana does contract negotiations over the next year or so with some of these guys. MMA is exploding all over the world, and I don't think he'll get away with paying s
