Haven't been active on the boards but I figured I'd catch up on the MMA stuff.

I disagree with Lagwagon. I thought Franklin did a fine job against a very tough opponent in Yushin Okami. Okami is a beast on the ground and is known to be strong as hell. In addition he's one of the most passive fighters in the entire MMA world.

Franklin had to chase Okami all over the ring and still dominated the first 2 rounds. He got careless and got tripped in the third and survived but I thought it was a good performance against a tough guy. Franklin looked dominated against Macdonald not a great fighter but a kid who was on a roll and looked solid against a tough SOB in Okami. I think he's ready for a title shot and I hope it comes against Anderson Silva even though I think Nate Marquardt has a great shot at the next PPV.

Regarding Forrest, I don't think he was that great to begin with, more of a product of the UFC's marketing machine.

BJ has always been a bit of an oddball. For example when he smoked Cael Uno in their first fight he ran back to the locker rooms before coming back for the announcement. I don't think what he did after the fight was unclassy, he hugged Jens and made peace with the guy. He clearly held on to the choke for longer than he needed to but I think all those years of wanting to get revenge on Jens went into that. It wasn't the most sportmanship move to do but they made up. After the fight what he did I thought was fine.

Keep in mind that most "live" events on Spike are on on tape delay for us. So avoid sherdog and whatnot if you don't want spoilers.

Big Nog is one of my favorite fighters so I'm really looking forward to his UFC debut as well. Heath Herring isn't a great fighter by any means but he's a name guy who is a dangerous opponent. More dangerous than other guys the UFC has matched up with guys that make their debut(Eddie Sanchez+Marvin Eastman for example). It's a good card with a lot of interesting fights. I find it interesting though that the marketing machine is pushing the Tito fight as the main reason for it. I think Tito is going to get beaten...

Agree with both points. But was anybody else impressed with Maynard especially his hands? On the show he didn't show much of his standup. He had a nice overhand but pretty much ground and pounded his way to wins. But against Emerson an known standup fighter he dominated.

Maynard has a lot of potential, the most out of anyone on TUF 5 IMO.

My understanding is that Fedor never had a contract with Pride. He always signed one fight contracts with a handshake agreement so that's why he hasn't fought yet. I think it's only inevitable for example.

Strikeforce was a good show. Frank Shamrock was really impressive. Baroni isn't a great fighter by any means but he's a good fighter with dangerous hands. Shamrock stood toe to toe with him and slugged it out. I thought he dominated the fight. This was a much different Frank Shamrock than the one that fought Renzo Gracie. Also credit to Baroni for fighting a brave fight as well.

It is too bad that Dana White and Frank Shamrock pretty much hate each other. I'd love to see Shamrock in the UFC. I think fights against Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin, or Dan Henderson would be dynamite.

Also Cung Le impressed. He throws some wild kicks and he generally looked good. Once again he was not taken down so we have no idea what his ground game is like but he looked good and he definitley has a future.

Totally agree. I think a lot of it comes from training with Couture. . .though that hasn't done a lot for Ed Herman. I'm not sure if Emerson is much of a test for anyone at this point after watching the show and the fights he was in. Either he gets scared and doesn't engage, or he tries to do just enough to get a decision. Doesn't have that killer instinct it seems like. Too afraid of losing maybe. Maynard strikes me as a guy that could really learn and get better, but that division (like all of them are starting to be) is getting pretty stacked. I wonder how much longer a show like TUF can go on now that Pride has been bought by Zuffa. Yeah, it can make for interesting tv, but I'm not sure you'll be able to throw any of the guys in the ring with the regular UFC guys soon. Having said that, I'm sure White and the rest of the team were using TUF to get exposure and didn't figure it to be a long term, every year sort of deal.

Well, they are going to do an TUF Mexico and maybe a TUF England or Japan. They can always do one for the WEC as well. Or have one like they had a few seasons ago where the welterweights would fight the champ. Hell, they could do one with the PRIDE guys to introduce them to the US audience.

I should comment I actually thought the opposite of Le. He seemed to keep his hands hanging at all times and I think he would last all of 60 seconds against someone that attempted to take him down. Maybe I had overly high expectations but his style and performance did nothing for me. I was real impressed with Shamrock though. Beating on someone I've never liked is always a good thing.

Hooters near the 405 usually does. Get there EARLY though. Last time I went I got there about an hour or so before the fight and they told us there was no way we'd get in at that point. The place was packed. Of course it was during bowl season too so one of those games was on. Still though, I'd do what I could to get there early. I go to Tequila Poppers up in Ontario though. Good appetizers and they sell tickets to get in. Like $6 or something, but it gets you in. Fun environment too.

Yea, you'd have to get to hooters AT LEAST 2 hours early.

Hooters is right up Harbor from me. I can always take a taxi home if I get too bombed.

Thanks for the tip!
