Obviously just asking for a trade doesn't mean he's gonna be moved, odds are he won't. But just like with AK47, Mitch and the Lakers should be making some calls.

Default Marion asks for trade, to the Lakers?

Obviously just asking for a trade doesn't mean he's gonna be moved, odds are he won't. But just like with AK47, Mitch and the Lakers should be making some calls.

And also, the Lakers quote at the end of the article makes me think it was in the context of a reporter asking him how he'd feel about being traded to the Lakers, not Marion coming out and volunteering the Lakers as his preferred destination.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7266426

Quote:
Marion asking Suns for trade
FOXSports.com, Updated 8 minutes ago

Phoenix Suns forward Shawn Marion, the team's highest-paid player and a four-time All-Star, says he wants to be traded after eight years with the club.

Marion said he decided to ask to leave because the team considered trading him over the summer and won't talk about a contract extension.

Marion told The Arizona Republic late Tuesday that he had informed the team of his desires and has struggled with the decision.

"I'm tired of hearing my name in trades," Marion said by phone from his Chicago home. "I love my fans in Phoenix, but I think it's time for me to move on."

Marion has two years left on his contract, which will net him $16.4 million for this season and $17.8 million in 2008-2009.

Suns general manager Steve Kerr declined to comment.

Marion said the Suns' decision not to enter contract-extension talks is only part of the reason he wants to leave. He also said the team's consideration of a three-way trade that would have sent him to the Boston Celtics in a deal landing the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett in Phoenix was a factor. Garnett has since been traded to the Celtics.

"I feel they tried to force my hand to Boston with the Garnett stuff," the 29-year-old said.

"I haven't done anything wrong. I leave it on the floor night in and night out," Marion said. "Sometimes it's just time to move on."

Marion said he would report as required for training camp Monday if he is still with the team. Besides Boris Diaw, who is expected to report Wednesday, the rest of the team is already in Phoenix for voluntary workouts.

"I'll do what I've got to do," he said. "I'm a professional. I'm not bitter. I love the fans, but I've got to take care of me."

So where would he like to go?

The Lakers look good to him.

"You have a great organization, great ownership there with the Lakers. I don't see no problems with playing there," Marion told The Sporting News.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Mitch Kupchak is too stupid to do anything that is good for the Lakers.

Trade Kupchak!

Interesting. But who would we give up? According to reports, it would include Odom/Cook. IMO to give up Odom would be too high of a price. Bynum/Cook would be good.

And even though he's good with it, his shot is really horrible to look at.

Well it's been a long while since free agency began and still nothing going on. Mitch Kupchak is officially lame.

Odom almost certainly has to be involved, from a salary standpoint to make the trade work under the cap, and from a talent angle for Phoenix to be interested.

Marion for AK47 makes the most sense; two guys who want out, play the same positions (both are SF/PF hybrids), and make around the same salary. That's the deal I'd expect to see if Marion is actually traded.

Odom for Marion is basically a lateral move. I don't think Marion would be that successful in a rigid system like the triangle. He does bring defense and rebounding, but he wouldn't be nearly as effective.

His nickname may have been "Silk" but Jamaal Wilkes' shot wasn't a thing of beauty either.

The Lakers would have no choice but to package Odom in a deal for Marion. A package of Bynum and Cook would be nowhere near the salary requirement that is needed to land Marion.

rebounding and defense is what the Lakers really need and Marion brings those in spades. The Lakers haven't had a decent rebounding forward since Horace Grant and that didn't last very long. Marion can do that AND score. Remember AC Green...Marion is like that only much much better.

I don't think Marion brings that much more defense to the Lakers than Odom does. Or rebounding for that matter. What's killed us is not being able to stop dribble penetration by the quick guards in the west or the league for that matter. Marion doesn't help that.

Second we don't have anybody that can legitamtely defend a big man like Duncan or any low post threat. Marion doesn't bring that kind of dfense.

You say he can score, yes in the Suns wide open system he's great.

In a rigid system like the triangle which depends on precision cutting and especially PASSING, Marion isn't a great fit. A lot of his points come in a broken field on the break where he finishes on dunks and layups. The Lakers don't get those kinds of breaks because we don't have a point guard who can push the pace and run a fast break.

Marion is a solid player, but he's not a great for the Lakers. Especially not at 16 mil per year not to mention he can opt out of his contract and leave anyways.

Think about what you wrote and ask yourself "Would the Suns do this deal". Then you'll realize how retarded that offer is.
