Nope, even last year in our championship year, Man U were really ineffective against a bunkered in defense. A ton of our goals came in open play. Forcing a giveaway and quick outlets to by Scholes and Carrick(fantastic passers) to our runners up front(Rooney, Giggs, Ronaldo, Saha, etc.)
Part of the problem is the lack of a true fox in the box predator(no more Ruud), but United play better this way. There's no reason we should have sold Smith. He would have been very valuable in a game like this, especially when all our strikers are hurt. 4-4-2 is the way to go for United. The 4-3-3 has had some success for us in the past, but we'll never win a title that way, especially with the way our midfield is constituted.
