Oh well.... I'm happy the Dodgers were able to get 2 out of 3. It is Colorado after all. They seem to give the Dodgers fits.

And the D'Backs core meltdown continues... Corey Patterson homers to give Cincinatti the go-ahead run in the 10th and Chris Young strikes out swinging in the bottom of the 10th with runners on 1st and 3rd.
Dodgers stay 4 1/2 games up. Sweet.

Very good news. His importance to the Dodgers aside, I'm glad that his wife & child were able to make it through birth with everybody safe and sound. You can never take that stuff for granted.
He's having two surgeries in a few days, I believe... He's shutting it down for the rest of the year. I have a feeling bringing Beltre back would make a Jones'-like impact. .
I wouldn't want to give up anything signifigant for Beltre (he still has one more year left on his contract), but to be honest he isn't a bad option at 3B. His OBP still blows but his OPS+ is slightly above average in Seattle and his defense is still uncanny.
I don't think the Jones comparison works here. Jones was coming off a pretty poor year while Beltre has been pretty consistent the last 3-4. He has been consistently average-slightly above average with the bat but he also saves a lot of runs in the field.
Again I wouldn't want to trade anything significant for him but he's a much better option next year then say perhaps a Casey Blake.

(Note: Dodgers, Braves and Cardinals fans everywhere are nodding and saying, "Yup ... been there, done that.")
Speaking of Blake it sounds like he might not be able to go today
Quote:
Blake said he felt fine warming up before the game and taking swings in the cage, but he struggled for words when asked if he thought he'd be ready to go when the Dodgers open a four-game series in Pittsburgh on Monday night.
Hong-Chih Kuo is unavailable again after feeling more discomfort coming out of his outing yesterday. "I can't say he's not hurt, but he's not out of the mix," Torre said. "We have to be a little more careful of his usage." Scott Elbert could fill the role of the power lefty out of the bullpen.
Takashi Saito and Brad Penny could pitch tonight with Kuo and Cory Wade unavailable.
