Doesn't seem like the Yanks gave up much in the deal.
Looks like the biggest prospect involved is Jose Tabata. But doesn't seem like they overpaid, like some teams will the next few days, for what they got.
Seems like the Manny rumors come up every year, but I'm starting to believe that they really might trade him. Seems unbelievable because he's still a damn good hitter but he seems to be pissing a lot of people off. Plus he's getting older and I'm not sure if the Red Sox want to pick up that 20 Million dollar option.
I'm guessing the Sox wouldn't get full value for Manny and they're still in the thick of the race. I'd still be surprised if they deal him--if they have to, let him walk after this year.
Yeah, it would be surprising if the Marlins dealt Hermida & prospects for Manny. I'd also be surprised if the Red Sox dealt Manny with virtually no offensive replacement in sight. Even if they go after Bay, that's still a drop-off and I don't know if they'd risk it.
I heard Kevin Kennedy say that Manny wants to be a free agent so he can get either a 4 year, 75M deal or a 5 year, 100M deal. Kennedy and Lyons said it'd never happen... you think?!?!
What's Manny smoking?

As midnight approached Wednesday night on the East Coast, officials from the Marlins and Red Sox said a deal involving Manny Ramirez was not done. Indications from Pittsburgh were that the Pirates were not satisfied with the players they were receiving in exchange for sending Jason Bay to Boston. And in California, Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, said he had been told nothing, which means nothing has been completed in terms of Ramirez's waiving his no-trade rights or in completing paperwork to send to the commissioner's office.
So, the complicated three-way deal might go down close to Thursday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. Ramirez wants out, and is willing to go to Florida. The Marlins want him -- and what he means to their pennant chances and pursuit of a new ballpark. The Red Sox clearly are willing to finance Ramirez's exit.
But the value of the young players was a sticking point late into the night, and one Red Sox official said, "This is anything but done."
The Nomar Garciaparra deal in 2004 went down to minutes before the deadline, and there was so much confusion the Twins never received the second prospect they thought they were owed. This might be Nomar Redux.
While Manny is still a potent bat in the lineup, this is almost becoming a "gots to go" situation. The team looks like they're out there to collect a paycheck and nothing else. Maybe it will shake things up, like the Nomar trade in 04.
Bay had a mediocre season in 07, but his line is pretty much equal to Manny's this year. Shouldn't ignore the potential upgrade in the field as well.
I'm anxious to see what else the Red Sox might be giving up.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Colletti, you make this move I'll knock that damn mustache off you face!

The Phillies and Dodgers have also been in the mix for Manny, but indications are that the talks are centered on Florida now. "The Marlins have the players. They can make it happen," one person familiar with the talks said. The Phillies showed interest but may have reservations about how Manny Ramirez would fit into an outfield without an obvious rightfielder and their offers have been said to be disappointing. The Dodgers apparently are willing to send Matt Kemp to Boston but they also appear to be on the sidelines now.
