About This Page: This is a discussion on Baseball within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Who's dumber: Joe Morgan or Dusty Baker?
Dusty's smart enough to keep his mouth shut. Morgan, on the other hand...
It should take more than a bit of notoriety in Baseball-Past to get an announcing job. Joe Morgan? Crap. Steve Lyons? Crap.
Hell, the only guys I can think of that were former players who are any good at broadcasting are Euker, Sutton, and Monday. Jerry Reuss is okay, too.
I'm actually a fan of all of the Dodgers color guys. Whether it's Mo or Psycho doing color for Charlie or Reuss doing color for Mo (which I HATE because Mo is NOT a good PBP guy), I have no problem with either of them. Joe Morgan, well. If he just stuck to calling & reacting to the game more often, I'd pay more attention.
Steiner's humor is absolutely moronic, and his verbose (and often obscure) references are more often wrong than not. He mispronounces names CONSTANTLY (saying things like "Encanarcion" instead of Encarnacion). "Nothing-and-xxx" drives me freakin' batty. He's nasally and he looks like hell in shorts.

Charlie Steiner was the play by play guy for the New Jersey Generals of the USFL, I remember him from when I was in high school. Then he did the NY Jets on radio for a while in the mid/late 80s before going to ESPN.
I'm another of the minority that actually likes Steiner and Lyons. They are COMPLETELY different that Vin, and I like the change of pace. Personally, I don't care for Monday, but he's alright as a color guy with Steiner. I can't stand him when he's on play by play. He's better than he has been in the past, but he rarely updates the score and that drive me nuts. If you turn on the game in progress, you could listen to Monday FOREVER before getting an update on the score.
Has anyone heard who is getting the radio contract for next year? I can't stand listening to the current station because the signal is so bad. I will actually listen to the out-of-town broadcast on XM Radio before listening to the local station.

At first I didn't like Steiner but he's grown on me. He laughs at some pretty wacky stuff and 30 seconds later, he'll erupt in laughter again. Oh well, it's 10X better than listening to Rory Marcus (sp?) or Brian Gayward.
In regard to the radio contract, the last article I read had ESPN 710 as the front runner for the contract. I guess the Angel's contract ends after this year. I'll be sooooo happy if they land that contract. The station is much much clearer than 980.
A change in the air?
Contract with 980 expires this season. With Angels leaving 710, that station is a possibility.

The Dodgers could have their fourth radio home in 11 years next season.
The team's contract with 980 expires this season. Three radio stations — 980, 710 and 570 — are bidding to sign the Dodgers for next year and beyond.
The Dodgers face a different issue in negotiating with each station, aside from how much revenue each deal might generate.
On 980, the Dodgers' current home, the pregame show mixes news and traffic reports with baseball coverage. The news focus there has left the Dodgers unable to air most weekday spring training games.
The other two stations offer the all-sports format ideal for spring broadcasts and extended programming before and after games, but the Dodgers could be bumped elsewhere on the dial in case of conflicts. The Lakers have priority at 570, and USC football has priority at 710.
The Angels plan to move their broadcasts from 710 to 830, a station bought last year by Angels owner Arte Moreno.

Aye. It looks like the Dodgers are the frontrunners at this point, but it depends on whether or not they want to move to an alternate station for USC games in the fall (seeing as how we ALL expect fallball to be played this season). It looks like the Angels are headed to AM830 to join their 5fwy counterparts. I don't care either way. I get 710 and 980 fine, I just bloody hate listening to Dodger talk after an exciting game and get 5 minutes of Bob Harvey in between 20 minutes of weather, traffic, ads and politic.
Not Dodger related, but I met Jack Wilson today. He was at my work playing some golf today. I guess he decided to come home for the All-Star Break. He's a pretty cool guy, seemed pretty down to earth.

I agree with the above statement. It's kind of embarrassing when you consider the madres get 24/7 coverage of their team on 1090. It'll be a great day when the Dodgers coverage will include a two hour pregame show with the post game show ending at midnight every night like the Padres. I hope that ESPN 710 picks up their coverage or at the very least that they force KFWB into providing more Dodger's airtime.

That's cool. We went to the same high school (Thousand Oaks High School) but he was 4 years ahead of me I think. He actually went to school with my brother though.
(Next time you see him, ask him why his parents still live in the same Condo as when he was in high school! Geez, kick down some cash for the parents.)

I don't know if that's true or not... he's pretty much out of the game not by choice.
Morgan just seems dumber because we have to hear him on a constant basis. But then Dusty pops up once in a while and reminds us that Morgan has competition.
