About This Page: This is a discussion on Baseball within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Andy MF'in LaRoche!!
10-7!!
I wouldn't touch DeWitt, LaRoche, Ethier, Kershaw, Loney, Martin, as far as Dodger players go.
The rest I would have no bones about if they were dealt for help.

Colletti's comments echoed what owner Frank McCourt told me earlier in the week when asked about the possibility of trading some of the kids. He said the ones they will hold onto are "the ones who are prepared to put in the work, listen to coaches and get better every day." The kids who they would be willing to part with are "the ones that can't do those things."
I don't know. Sounds to be talking about Kemp if you ask me. If Kemp, Broxton, Hu were traded, I'd hope that we'd at least get more than a marginal player. As bad as those three have been, they still have loads of upside.

You wouldn't touch both DeWitt and LaRoche? I'd say that once Ned makes his decision on one of those guys, it's time to get rid of the other one, no?

That's what I was thinking. It sure sounds like he's talking about Kemp.
Broxton seems to have his fair share of blowups and it's driving me nuts. Both have tremendous upside though, which makes it difficult.

That ball was drilled. Line drive homerun and it sill cleared the fence by 20 feet.

You can say that again. I get nervous everytime he comes in.

DeWitt is an untouchable for you but Matt Kemp isn't? Yea that makes a lot of sense. I guess DeWitt is a grinder and a baseball player's baseball player. Grrrrr. Heart/Grit!

I guess it depends on how you view both players.
Kemp oozes talent and athleticism. Yet, he's had time to put it together and hasn't, not all of it. The average is fine but for as many K's as he has, you'd expect him to have more HRs than he has right now. It also comes into having confidence in a player. As high as DeWitt's value is (and it's pretty high as Colletti has admitted that the player he'd been asked about the most this year in prelim trade talks was DeWitt), his untapped upside is probably what makes me put him in the untouchable group. Everyone has their own opinion of what they like to see in a ballplayer and DeWitt is the kind of guy I like. Now, I'm not saying I'd want to get rid of Kemp for a bag of Doritos but if came down to getting a legitimate player and Kemp was the key, I wouldn't mind the loss. It just comes down to confidence in his ability to put it all together and be the player you want him to be. DeWitt's a grinder though and I bet he has sicklike work ethic!
However, the Dodgers' bid for Sabathia is complicated by their pursuit of Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson as a replacement for the injured Rafael Furcal, sources say.
To get Wilson, the Dodgers would need to trade the Pirates some of the same players that the Indians want for Sabathia, leaving Los Angeles with a choice of one deal or the other.
Sabathia, 6-5 with a 2.16 ERA in his past 14 starts, is scheduled to pitch twice more before the All-Star break. His next start is Tuesday, but several baseball people expect he will be traded before then.
While the Dodgers might not offer a prospect better than Brewers Class AA left fielder Matt LaPorta, their proposal for Sabathia would include three players, sources say.
Class AA right-hander James McDonald, Class AAA shortstop Chin-Lung Hu and third baseman Andy LaRoche are among the Dodgers' prospects likely drawing consideration form the Indians.
If we traded for CC, would we be able to keep him? This team is not World Series material. Because of that, I don't like the thought of trading for a guy unless Ned feels he can retain him after the year is up. I hate renting a guy just to fill seats or make it to the playoffs just to get knocked out in 5.
Jack Wilson? I didn't even think of him... I'm not sure if he is really the answer. He brings a great glove but adding him would just add to our problems of having a good average with no pop.

A trade for either Wilson or Sabathia also would figure to take the Dodgers out of the mix for a slugger such as the Rockies' Matt Holliday, who also could be moved before the July 31 non-waiver deadline.
Please deliver us Matt Holliday. Please, please, pretty please!!!!!

I make it a point not to read any trade rumors that come from Ken Rosenthal. I feel like he just makes stuff up whenever he wants. This is the same guy that reporter and put up a story on Foxsports that said the Dodgers acquired Tim Hudson a few years ago. But since it's fun to talk about trade rumors I'll post up a response.

With all rent a players I think the chances of re-signing CC would be roughly the same as if we didn't trade for him and tried to sign him in the off-season. Star players whose contracts are up are traded for a reason. They want to test the open market. I don't really buy the whole "inside track" notion.

A trade like this would scream of Colletti trying to save his job. That's basically the bottom line. I could live with giving up McDonald, Hu, and LaRoche(and I'm the biggest LaRoche fan on these boards), but that comes with the caveat that we'd re-sign CC and like I said above that scenario is just as likely if we didn't trade for him. Anyways it might not matter because the Brewers could beat that particular package.

Wilson is what he is. A good glove man with an average bat. A career line of .270/.313/.377 isn't really inspiring. Wilson wouldn't be a bad stop gap at SS, he'd be decent enough to buy some time for Hu/De Jesus. But he's not an impact player and I wouldn't give up any high level prospects for him. If Colletti does, he's an idiot.

Don't hold your breath. Even if the Dodgers offered up a solid package of players(the centerpiece would probably have to be Kemp), I don't think the Rockies would trade Holliday inside the division.
