Gerry Upland Ca: What do the Dodgers have to do to pass the D-backs in the West....Trade for a Bat or a Pitcher? any chance we can get Tex from Atl?
SportsNation Jayson Stark: I get the sense the Dodgers are more focused on a bat than an arm, even a bullpen arm. Their problem is that they have no place to put that bat except third base or short. So outside of Casey Blake or maybe Blalock, there isn't much to choose from. The Braves would love to deal them Teixeira for James Loney. But I see just about zero chance of that one happening. The Dodgers still like Loney too much, and they'd have him for four more years.
maybe this might be Jone's last chance? If anything, he is showcasing how bad Jones is to McCourt and Colletti and will justify him beching Jones in favor of Ethier for the majority of the games....(wishful thinking)
2. There's little doubt this homestand is crucial. So, you're right - it's Jones' chance. Last chance? We'll see. But the homestand is crucial nonetheless for every Dodger involved, as some are getting their names mixed into trade talk.
6 games against crap teams.
4 games against the team we're fighting to overtake in the standings.
These 10 games will probably set the tone for the next month or so.
"In Andruw's case, I want to see more of what I've seen some of. Keep in mind, if you go back to the start, Andruw was a huge part because of what he brings to the table and I'm not about to ignore that. We signed the guy for a reason. His experience, being on championship clubs. But he's struggling. That's where the dilemma is for who gets most of the action. If I saw no progress it would be an easier decision to make."
