(Note: Dodgers, Braves and Cardinals fans everywhere are nodding and saying, "Yup ... been there, done that.")
A source advises me that Dodgers scout Tony Howell and Mets scout Mack "Shooty" Babitt (yeah; "Shooty," about whom Billy Martin said after penciling into the lineup 54 times in 1981 "If he ever plays for me again, please, Shooty me." ) have been spotted at the Rangers vs. White Sox series.
The Mets are looking for rotation help and a left field upgrade over Fernando Tatis while the Dodgers are reportedly looking for a starter, a setup man, and SS and / or 3B.
The Mets, I assume, are scouting OFs Marlon Byrd and Milton Bradley, while the Dodgers are most likely putting an eye on 3B Hank Blalock.
My blame lies elsewhere... but the pitching only gets better with Washington...
John Lannan, LHP (6-9, 3.29)
Odalis Perez, LHP (3-7, 3.99)
Jason Bergmann, RHP (1-7, 4.21)
Seriously... we will be tested for sure.
Seeing how well this team seems to perform against subpar pitching, I'd say we're in trouble. I smell a sweep... That is..., of course, unless Blake DeWitt starts.
Blalock hasn't had a good full year since '04. Maybe his only good full year, since it's the only season he OPS'd over .750 (Loney, Ethier, Martin, and Kemp are all well above that, if anyone needs a reference).
Why are there so many stupid people in baseball? It doesn't seem like it's that way in other sports.
I mean...not to call Joe Torre "stupid" or anything...but we're talking about a guy who has been getting on base at a .294 clip while batting lead off.
MAYBE...he meant that he "knows" how to bat lead off. He's just not able to do it.

Probably not.
I wonder if Torre actually looks at stats like that...
I mean Kemp's OBP is .100 points higher than Pierre's leading off!
Overall, Kemp's OBP is .343 and Pierre's is .327. That's after Pierre's relatively hot start and Kemp's slow start.
