After 12 seasons and 12 post seasons, it looks as if the Yanks will can Torre. Its a shame but in reality, Torre hasn't delivered anything since beating the Mets in 2000. Whether you want to blame Cashman, Steinbrenner or the players, ultimately the manager has to accept some responsibility. When you have the largest payroll for those 7 years and you haven't been winning a title, the axe needs to fall. What do you think his legacy will be? Tactical genius? Cool head? Overrated?
Now for us arm chair pundits, who becomes the next manager for the Yanks? Id like to see Don Mattingly, but that of course means he'll have to shave his sideburns.

Whoever is responsible for putting together the Zimmer-frame brigade of pitchers that the Yanks have, should go. I know Joe has had the largest payroll to work with but im not sure that it is him who is responsible for the payroll, or some of the bonehead deals that have been made.
Ivan is on the mark. Pitching, pitching, pitching. They don't have the veteran depth and their young pitchers are still not there. The Yankees are going to be great again and soon with the kids that Cashman has held onto but George will need a scapegoat and that will be Joe. He is truly one of the greatest managers MLB has ever seen.
Torre is the only reason I didn't hate the Yankees as much as I normally do (since I have been a lifelong Red Sox fan). Joe is a class act that lent credibility to that organization. It will be a sad day to see him go but at least I can go back to hating the Yankees.

Would rather have Girardi over MAttingly as manager. The real problem is Cashman. Need a GM that can bring in and retain good pitchers not has beens and injury prone players.

Nothing official has happend yet but during the post game press conference, Torre seemed to know that his career as a Yankee was over.
Giradi seems like the ready made replacement.

I would love to see Torre get a job anywhere....just so that he can be exposed as the most overrated manager in the history of baseball. If I were the Dodgers I'd avoid him like the plague.

Strategy wise and in game stuff, I think Torre is fine. I don't think he's the greatest manager in the world but he's certainly not the worst.
I can see why some people see him as being overrated, you have to admit though he has done a great job of managing ego's over the years.
Other than his overuse of his bullpen guys I think he's a solid manager. He's not terrible and he's not the greatest.
It's kind of like the Phil Jackson thing. Yea, he's always had talent, but that talent never went anywhere before Jackson/Torre got to the jobsite.
