"CLEVELAND — Maybe LeBron James stepped over the line with his allegiance to the New York Yankees.
A day after the Indians routed the Yankees 12-3 in their AL playoff opener Thursday night, the buzz around town wasn't about Cleveland's offensive power surge or pitcher C.C. Sabathia's gutty performance.
Instead, fans jammed sports talk radio lines and Internet message boards, crying foul over their frustration with the NBA superstar's traitorous appearance in the stands wearing a Yankees cap.
"The guy is the face of Cleveland sports and he's not even rooting for a team that's 100 feet from the building he plays in," said Adam Burke, who was waiting outside the left-field gate for Game 2 Friday."
he was a Yankee fan before he was in the NBA ans is friends with Derek jeter. Why can't he be a fan of NY even though he works in Cleveland?
It would be different he he was wearing a Laker hat
Well, you are trying to stir the pot. But you're absolutely right, people here would be going just as nuts.
Actually not, im a Scot who loves U.S. sports and like finding out American thoughts on sports, I know in the U.K. right now if something similar happened he would be crucified in the media. But then again we are petty like that.
Completely different situation since LeBron is born and raised in Ohio. He should he hated on just the same as all the other Yankee "fans".

(Note: Dodgers, Braves and Cardinals fans everywhere are nodding and saying, "Yup ... been there, done that.")
Doesn't Jack Nicholson support like the Lakers yet supports the freaking Yankees too? No one whines on how he should support the Dodgers or Angels here... so I don't get what the Indians fans are complaining about.
Then again, Lebron didn't grow up in NY... so you'd think he'd root for a hometown team, instead of being a bandwagoner. But either way, who cares? The Indian fans if anything, should talk trash to Lebron and rub it in on how his team "sucks". The baseball team that is, not his Cavs.

Not really a good analogy... Jack is also from NY, and he doesn't play for one of the local teams.
I mean, I understand why Cleveland would be upset just because of the emotions the playoffs bring... but yeah, it is remarkably petty.
That said, a kid from Ohio rooting for the Yanks is bad on principle.
Oh man. Thanks jbruin. I totally blanked out there. I thought Jack was from L.A. because of his Hollywood acting. Nice pointing out =D
But yeah. Lebron is from Ohio.. and rooting for the Yankees definitely would stir some crap up.
Like let's take Kobe then! He's from Philly, so I'm sure he likes the Eagles in Football. Had we had a team here, and he's sporting Eagles gear, I would say that's okay with me.
