What about Jason Varitek? An amazing .219 batting average. 7 HR. 27 RBIs. The most deserving one!!
But as for the starting lineups... the "fans" need to know their baseball. It's a stupid popularity contest when it comes down to it. Does that translate into ratings? Maybe. That's probably what Fox will care about anyway, instead of the ones that are most deserving.
It'll be another easy AL win anyway, why bother having the game?
Though this year instead of Yankees/Red Sox vs NL... it seems to be Yankees/RedSox vs Cubs.

I wasn't aware of that. I'm too young to have watched it live but I've seen clips and it was awesome. It really sucks if it did end his career, though.
Having said that, what is the point of playing the game if you aren't going to PLAY the game? They say that it now means something yet you still see 7 pitchers in 9 innings of baseball for one team. WTF?

Looked it up. Apparently he separated his shoulder in the collision, but it didn't end his career. He just wasn't able to hit for power after that.
Pretty bad. I'd rather Varitek and Ortiz take the time off...which might still happen. It is a popularity contest. This is brought up every year. At least Varitek was a player vote.
J.D. MF'ing DREW made it, so there IS reason to celebrate.
Varitek was voted on by the players and coaches. Not part of the popluarity contest. The people who play the game decided that he is an allstar. Ortiz has been hurt. Does he deserve it? No. But no one is a better spokes person for baseball than Big Papi
