With poor quality video as evidence, Anaheim Ducks captain Chris Pronger originally escaped punishment from the NHL after apparently stomping on the leg of Vancouver Canucks' centre Ryan Kesler Wednesday night.
But a clearer version of the video revealed late Thursday - with a better look at the incident - has the NHL is looking into it again. A phone hearing is scheduled for Saturday and a suspension will likely result.
Pronger waived his right to an in-person hearing in favor of a phone hearing.
Traditionally, the type of hearing usually speaks to the number of games a player can be suspended. The phone hearing normally means four games or less, while an in-person hearing means five or more.
By waiving his right to an in-person hearing, Pronger acknowledges his suspension could be more severe than the phone treatment usually determines.
Do they speak English in Canada or is that translated from French by a retarded English speaking Canadian? The last sentence contradicts the previous 2.
It is saying that it should be an "in-person" meeting, but Pronger waived that right. Thus meaning it will probably be 5 games or more.
The way that it is written doesn't say that. What you have done is come to a logical conclusion. If a reader has to take a guess, no matter how obvious it may be, means that the writer sucks.
I doubt waiving a right to appear will make any difference whatsoever. Five games tops.

I am sorry OP...but even as a homer, you have to be honest...if Pronger was trying to step away he would not have been facing Kessler AND holding on to the boards. Add that to the fact that he double-stomped...and...C'MON BROTHER????? It was a brutal stomp and w/ Pronger's past transgressions...it should be at least a suspension for the rest of the regular season...if not till the end of the playoffs...it won't be, but it should.

It is poorly written but I also agree with Nicholls9 that the point they were poorly trying to make is Pronger was supposed to have an in-person hearing, but opted for the phone hearing. They were also trying to say that phone hearings typically mean shorter suspensions but that's not likely to be the case in this instance because Pronger is choosing the phone hearing and not the in-person hearing.
I think Pronger's gone the rest of the regular season but if I was suspending him I'd go rest of the regular season plus the 1st round of the playoffs. Small suspensions don't seem to teach Pronger a lesson. The 9 regular season games could very well cost the Ducks a chance at the division title, a chance at home ice in the playoffs, as well as drop them into an unfavorable 1st round playoff matchup.
This review will really show how much balls Campbell and the NHL have...which is likely to be none. Despite the fact that Chris Simon had a worse history of intent to injure players than Pronger, you cannot set a precedent like that earlier in the season and then backpeddlle away from it when it happens to one of the game's elite players. Especially considering the horrific accidental injuries to Bieksa and Zednik this year, I'm hoping that a very firm message is sent. And yes, if this was Dustin Brown, I would feel the same.

Add Corey Perry to that list. They lost him for six weeks because of a skate blade accident. Being that these sort of incidents are so fresh in the public conscience, the league really does need to come down hard on this one. I think I would feel this way regardless of who the player is but, despite his skill, Pronger is one small step behind Chris Simon. I mean the guy has 7 suspensions! Most players in the league don't even have 1. That has to play into Campbell's decision making.
if you put it on a scale and simons was 8 or a 9, wasnt prongers still at least a 6 or 7 when it came to intent and force? i have no clue why pronger wouldnt get 10-15 if simon got 30 for ALMOST the same thing.
