It's fair maybe value wise, which is why it won't happen. Assuming Pitts can't afford to sign Hossa and keep Malkin, which is the only reason for them to make this deal, they are the ones that have to overpay.
No way we give up Kopitar and the #2 overall for Malkin. You want the #2 overall pick? You overpay.
Throwing in O'Sullivan and Visnovsky is giving Pitts too much in this deal. It's Cammalleri and the #2 overall only, or forget it.
Imagine the Kings down the middle next season.
Malkin
Kopitar
Boyle
Handzus
That ain't bad...
i can't imagine a deal like this not involving Boyle or Moulson or both somehow as well.

They have to be asking for more pieces than what we're hearing. Cammy and the #2 for Malkin, are you ****ing kidding me? That deal would have been done a long time ago.
And Lombardi is working the phones a ton because he has a pile of picks and at least 1, if not 2 players he wants to move and pronto.
I'm sorry but Kopitar and the #2 for Malkin may be a good deal in terms of assets being roughly equal but it does nothing for the Kings. After that trade we'd still have a great forward and still no defenseman. Where does it get you?
On the other hand, a Cammy and the #2 is absurd. I mean, if the Kings had Malkin would YOU make that trade? No friggen way.

yeah, i don't think he'd have even broken a sweat making that trade.
Forwards-Lots of depth at the forward position with some great kids in the pipeline. The Forward Corp is still young with some being signed to cap friendly long term deals.
Goalies-Bernier is the goalie of the future. Maybe not next season but sooner rather then later for sure with other skilled prospects ready to go as well.
DCorp- Glaring holes....holes everywhere. No one of note in Manchester and only 3 legitimate guys under contract now. In a Defense rich draft where weve got lots of picks the timing coulldnt be better. To trade those picks for a forward makes no sense and as Jom said-gets us nowhere. Hell if Im Lombardi and cant make a move to trade up I still use almost every pick weve got on nothing but defensemen.

...but in a defense rich draft you could get a solid defenseman at #29.
Don't get me wrong I think Lombardi keeps the pick and takes Bogo or Doughty, but the possibilities are interesting.

Sure-but given the history of the Kings to botch any given draft I want to hedge all bets to meet this one specific area. If there was one team in the league with a specific need and all of the tools to fill that need yet somehow manage to not fill that need it would certainly be our beloved Kings.
Case in Point the 2003 Draft. Kings did well with Brown but with their next 2 first rd picks selected Boyle and Tamibilli. Im a huge fan of Boyle and cant wait for him to make the big squad but as CBGB mentions Ad Nauseum the next guy selected was Corey Perry. Also selected was Shea Weber, Dan Fritsche and others.
After the first 10 picks or so the draft is a crap shoot-and given the depth at forward and goalie I subsribe to the "Leave no Doubt" philosophy.

Including Boyle, Purcell, or Hickey would be a deal breaker for me.
I imagine that Pitts is talking to Atlanta and possibly St. Louis as well.

Yeah, but this ain't your Daddy's Kings' front office making these picks.
There is always going to be some luck involved in making these picks, these kids are only 18.
