About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. I don't really hate the Leafs, but I can't stop laughing about their plight. Ferguson totally screwed them with these contracts.
Tucker - no trade
Kubina - no trade
Sundin

So all they've got to look forward to is a lottery pick and McCabe is the only guy they might be able to move to get an ounce of help to rebuild, right? Well...
Toronto still is trying to unload defenseman Bryan McCabe, who likely would waive his no-trade clause only to return to the Islanders. But it won't happen unless interim general manager Cliff Fletcher includes the Maple Leafs' first-round pick as part of any deal.
They'd have to give up their lottery pick just to get rid of McCabe?!!
Tucker - no trade
Kubina - no trade
Sundin - no trade
Tucker is signed with a cap hit of $3M per through 2010-11
Kubina is signed with a cap hit of $5M per through 2009-10
Sundin is signed just through this season

Rob Blake, L.A - NTC
Michal Handzus, L.A - NMC
Lubomir Visnovsky, L.A - NMC [Starting in 2008-09; full NMC until July 1, 2012; then partial NTC]
For further clarification:
Blake on last year of contract.
Handzus = NMC for 3 more years
Visnovsky can be traded this year (Not likely that DL will trade him). His NMC does not activate until July 1st.
And, oh yes, the Kings will be on the upswing of their rebuild (Playoffs next year). Toronto hasn't started.
Leafs Lunch today is so funny. While we debate the merits of the Kings tanking or not they are discussing how to make the Leafs a crappier team down the stretch and how Fletcher better get busy trying to figure out a way to make them suck the rest of the season.
One caller: "If we win tonight, we'll be out of the top 5 and the Stamkos Cup will be slipping away."
Another caller: "We all know that this is when the Leafs' vets all play their best hockey, when it doesn't matter."
Bill Waters said, "Don't be surprised if Fletcher trades Toskala and the Leafs go with red light Raycroft the rest of the way."

It's the loss of trade assets, not their contracts, that I'm getting at. I don't think the cap is going to limit their immediate rebuilding plans. That's why I found it painfully funny that the only NTC they can get to agree to a trade would not really be an "asset."
"In addition to Sundin not waiving his "no-trade" clause on Sunday morning Fletcher also sat down with Pavel Kubina, who said no. He sat down with Tomas Kaberle who also said no as did Darcy Tucker. The lone bright spot may be Bryan McCabe who said he would consider waiving his clause if it was with the right Eastern conference team. "
