The All Star game in past years was interesting. These days it's just a boring, thing to watch. About the only interesting part is the skill events. I can certainly see why he'd think missing it would be less important in his life then spending the time with his wife. It's noones business what any player does when off the ice. I think most of the ones finding fault with him abt. his decision are thinking with the mind of a man and not able to place yourselves in the same position. My God, hockey is just a sport and takes 2nd place compared to your family. There is life outside of the hockey world, which some can't seem to realize.

TRUE!
BUT!
not when its a business and people are throwing down lots and lots of money to see you... also this is a visit remember, not a necessity. her being sick with complications, totally feasible... just to visit during the all star game and im not going to repeat all my points again... not feasible.

Look, I can relate in a small way, and yes I understand that hockey does not equal life. All things being equal, if he was taking an optional day off to be with his family I wouldn't have a problem with it.
However, he was elected by the fans to participate in a showcase for the league. Many many HOF players before him have talked about the honor of playing in it. I just think those two points have gotten lost in the shuffle.
Having been around my wife during her pregnancy, the allstar game seems like a more palatable experience. But then again, she was preganant with twins.
im sure that even with out luongo playing... the all star game will still shock you with the amazing 4 on 0s, cherry pickers, hit (as in just 1), a score that resembles a football game and record low TV ratings.
as far as putting luongos wife in vancouver, if you grew up in FL. would you want to go to vancouver- in january, with out any family or friends. I know what your thinking, atleast she can see roberto roughly 8-12 days a month. selfish woman.
What pregnant woman wouldnt want that. Your right guys, shes only pregnant. shes being pretty selfish and irrational. i mean, its not like any of this is life altering, dangerous or even a matter of life or death.
Luongo is a prick.
and
His wife is a liability and should be traded.

Dude, you keep saying this. Do you think the tickets go on sale the week before the game or something? 90% of those tickets go to corporate sponsers. The other 10% go to some season ticket holders in random lottery drawings. They don't go on sale to the public. Also, when said tickets are available, there is no clue who is on the ballot let alone the team. If there are people out there buying tickets to the all-star game to see ONE person that MIGHT be there. . .they deserve whatever they get.
Luongo can do whatever he wants in regards to the all-star game. If the Canucks said he can miss one game after it as well, that's their business. It's not like he wasn't going to miss any more games the rest of the season. Should idiot fans who pay "lots and lots of money" to see him be pissed when they show up and he's a Coaches Decision?

You're right, especially in light of the fact that his team signed off on the absence. He made requests/demands to the team and his wishes were granted. However, that doesn't make anyone else who thinks that he is shirking his responsibilities wrong. It just means that he has gotten permission. When you combine his ASG absence with his request for the first game off after, it's clear that this is about having a vacation with his wife prior to going into the 2nd half and playoffs. I can understand that, but I can also support the position of those who say that he needs to do a better job with his family so that this type of vacation isn't neccessary. He is not anywhere near the first All-Star to have a pregnant wife.
Scott Niedermayer (and, possibly, Selanne) are setting a far more dangerous precedent than anything Luongo is doing.
While this selfish "part-timer" is playing golf or napping on the Barcalounger (trying to decide whether or not he wants to fullfil the balance of his contract), the rest of the league is grinding out the season. He waltzes in halfway through, fresh a daisy. At least when Forsberg did it, he was coming back from an injury.
I don't think the Canucks have any issue with any of this, since they,re going to start Luongo all 187 (OOPS! 186) of the remaining games. Resting him will probably be beneficial for them down the road as well.
If the NHL is so worried about the players' attendance for these boring, worthless ASGs, they should follow the NFL's lead - have them after the season at a resort destination. Don't recall many of those players opting out.
Doesn't bother me - I'll watch / listen to all 82 Kings games this season (plus Center Ice games); haven't seen the ASG in years...

I'm totally with you on this one. Also agree with the one who said why have a goalie at all in the ASG. There isn't any action really taking place in those things. Little checking and just a chance for people to see their favorite players. If you like good challenging games, the ASG certainly isn't one of them. Also a chance for a team to rest their goalie before playoffs is a smart move, far as I'm concerned. I'm sure many teams wished they'd given their players a chance to rest during the Olypics also, due to injuries that have taken place during those games.
I wonder if Leykis would be an effective arguer here on these boards. This way people with decent points and arguments can make them without him screaming like a little girl "This is my show and I am the host, you talk when I say you talk." This way people with better arguments than Tom don't have to be shut down just because it is "his show." Immature move. He only does that when he knows he is getting worked.

I download most of the 97.1 podcasts and I imagine (I haven't listened to this particular show yet) Leykis's angle would be the following . . . there is no benefit for men to get married . . . men in their 20's shouldn't be married, they should just be getting laid . . . men in their 20's should focus on their careers and make that their top priority, and have a stable of women to get laid by along the way . . . always wear condoms and don't get anyone pregnant . . . be straightforward with these ideas and if you're successful or even have the potential to be successful, you'll have women who will want to 'date' you.
Luongo has broken several of those rules, and I imagine that based on that, Leykis thinks he's a pussy.
Broken rule #1: He's married, worse off, he's a hugely successful 20-something and married.
Broken rule #2: He got a woman pregnant
Broken rule #2: He's putting a woman ahead of his career.
I didn't make this stuff up, just relaying what I think Leykis's angle would be . . . dear.
