About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. This all comes down to one condition and one condition only: is his wife hot?
Couldn't help it, haha.
How do you know she doesn't have a high-risk pregnancy? How do you know what's going on with his family situation?
You're right, she did know what she was signing up for. Did you ever think that maybe it's his decision to stay home? I grew up with a father who played pro hockey. It's hard on kids having a dad gone all the time. But my father was like Luongo - he spent every minute home that he could, not out screwing around, partying like a lot of the players did. My father's priority was his family.
To miss a nonsense game that means nothing is not a catastrophe. The game is a joke.
I've sat at the Kings games during warm ups and watched the looks on the players faces when their kids are there. It's great. Lykis can kiss my a$$. He's a miserable, lonely, whiner who pays people to be around him. I'd love to hear from the female that hurt him this bad - he hates women like no one I've ever heard before.
I voted for Luongo over and over. I think he's a great goaltender. But I also applaud his loyalty to his family. He owe's me nothhing. He's giving up a party weekend to spend with his wife. That's a real crime.
Absolutely agreed. Leykis' viewpoint is stupid on this one. We have NO idea what his situation is and THERE DOESN'T have to be an excuse for him to want to spend time with his family, as long as his bosses are okay with it. This is a friggin non-issue and Leykis is an ass for bringing this one up.
I agree that Leykis does not listen to his own wisdom. He only dates 9's and 10's. Let me tell you the truth:
When he used to sit in 115 couple years ago he was with a solid LA 5 and the next week a solid 6, LA 6, at best. And he was acting like a kid in a candy store like he just scored the hottest chick in the world.
Either way...he has good points and bad points.
As for Luongo...nothing was mentioned that she was having problems. If she was, he did the right thing. If not, he is a total pussy.
He knows his position. This cannot be compared to a normal guy going in punching in the clock and asking for a day off. Sorry completely different. He gets paid way too much and for that money he will be demanded a hell of lot more and should be required to attend unless it is an emergency.

safe to bet all the people saying luongo is a pussy are not married.
I am guessing he gets a decent bonus for making the All Star team, so he wanted the money, who wouldn't.
when someone gets a season ending injury during the ASG will ytour opinions be the same? imagine losing him for the season on a meaningless game.
Well sure. They're either children or geeks (i.e., look something like Leykis).

Having gone through 4 kids being born, and 2 being high risk pregnancies myself, I have to say that Luongo gets paid to do his job, and if there isn't a life threatening issue here, then he is setting a very bad example.
What if the Canucks miss the playoffs by 2 points? What if he falls down in the shower in Florida and shatters his kneecap?
We don't know the whole story, that is why it is very difficult for me to swallow the fact that not only is he skipping the All Star game, but a regular season game to boot.
When Modry missed a couple games because his dad was very, very ill, that was totally OK.
But this whole thing with Lungo doesn't add up, and he should WANT to let people know what is really going on so he doesn't come off looking like a moran.
You owe it to your teammates, to the league and to the fans to show up at your showcase event, to play every regular season game you are scheduled for, and to do your best.
Sorry, but I think this is the wrong message to be sending, sounds like he wants a vacation instead of playing in the AS game.

i dont know if its been said since i skipped most of the pages.
someone else in another thread said NHLers have thier priorities
1. Family
2. Him self
3. team.
you can complain all you want. even if thier arent any complications, even if she wasnt prego, he would rather spend time with his wife than play the most pointless game of the year. Litteraly, the goals and points dont even count or matter in ascoring race, or any other numerical catagory.
would you go in on a 1/2 day of work- if you could get out of it? any of you that would go to work dont deserve to be on this message board let alone wasting time.

he is among the few people in this world that can combine something he loves with his career choice. At that he is lucky. Other than that he is no different from a reg. person. He has feelings, pays taxes, and probably a mortgage/rent like all of us. He has a contract that guarantees payment for a percentage of 82 games played. They do the playoffs and all star game for free. out of desire. money has no incentive. we all know goalies get hung out to dry in the Allstary game. would you really want to go into work if you thought you were gonna get hung out to dry, and wasnt getting paid for it
