About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. FanSince67 said everything I was thinking.
Man, I think I you and your daughter. *call me*
Like i said he's slumped before, it appears from the past few days he's starting to come out of it. Kopi will finish with 85+ points this season, you can quote me on that.
As fans we don't know the full story, maybe he and the wife are having marital problems, or she is having a troubled pregnancy. Him missing 1 period of a pointless allstar game is not going to hurt anyone, and I am sure the Canucks will be ok without him for one game. Also I am guessing the team would rather he take a week off then, rather than later in the season. Players take personal time off all of the time. I think he just has his priorities straight.
But what's the point of the vote if he's not going to participate? If he's so selfless, why didn't he just withdraw his name from the ballot?
I totally agree with the point that I don't know the whole story. I'm not passing judgement on what his wife or his family has going on but why not just eliminate himself from the situation to begin with?

Is eliminating himself from the ballot a possiblity? And if it was, that ballot came out months ago, things could have changed in the course of a few days.

Sorry, but it sure sounded like you were passing judgement. There seems to be a contingent of fans that think these players owe them something. They owe you a hockey game. That's it - plain and simple. If you don't like what you see, you can quit watching.
Who the **** is Leykis and what the hell does he know about family values? It's none of his goddamn business what athletes do for their families. He's just a jealous fat turd who talks **** about successful people. Has it ever occurred to him that some women have difficult pregnancies and are on bed rest for 6 of their 9 months? Some people need to keep their mouth shut until they get their facts straight.
I know that if I had an opportunity to spend time with my family during a break from work I would take it. Playing hockey is Roberto's job just as much as setting up servers is mine. We work to provide for our families and that's the bottom line. My family comes before everything and everyone... and if somebody doesn't like it, they can suck a big fat donkey dick.
Family is the most important thing in life - OP, you can ask Giguere. Didn't he skip a few games for a child with problems?
And I think Dustin Brown has also asked for a few games off to be with his wife for a C-section.
I agree that a guy should be with family for the birth of a child. However, as I understood the op the wife will simply just be pregnant. If they plan the C-section for that time then that's fine although it would have been nice had he made that known before the voting.
Having said that...I still think he's a whiney wuss.

And you're entitled to your opinion about Luongo. However, when it comes to carrying a child for nine months, I'd suggest you keep your mouth shut. I'd give you 100-1 odds that YOU couldn't do it. Does that make you a whiney wuss?
AGAIN, you have no idea what they're family situation is, and it's really none of your business anyway. This whole thing is between Luongo and the Canucks. The ASG is a waste. They'll give up his spot to the next guy and he'll be home with his wife, which is where the rest of the league will be. So what?
To miss a nonsense game that means nothing is not a catastrophe. The game is a joke.
Its irrelevant what you or for that matter Luongo thinks of the importance of the game. The league doesn't consider it a joke and unless he is willing to come out and openly proclaim it as a joke, that reasoning shouldn't be part of the discussion. His employer (by extension) has determined this game to be in the interest of the sport and barring serious circumstances he should attend because it is an obligation. Not to mention that by far, his obligation to his family will increase AFTER the baby is born, what then? He should just collect his paycheck and stay home with the wife and kids? It isn't about being a pussy, but it is about living up to your responsibilities.
That said, you're right about us not knowing the details of the difficulty of the pregnancy and if that were an issue, I would consider that to be a serious circumstance.
I could give a rats ass what Tom Leykis thinks. Just had to get that out of the way.
According to the article on TSN, the Canucks gave Luongo permission to miss the All-Star game and the first game back after the break (against Dallas) so that he and his pregnant wife could spend some time together at their off season home in Fort Lauderdale Florida.
I don't really have an opinion (except of course that I'd love for Dallas to lose) but it sounds to me like this could not be a high-risk pregnancy. If it were she'd be unable to travel to Florida from Vancouver. Of course his wife is most likely from Florida (he did play there for many years). Maybe due to the pregnancy, she is staying with family in Florida while Roberto plays the season in BC? If that's the case it could very well be a high-risk pregnancy or the fact that they haven't seen much of each other since the start of the season? Again, it's none of our business and it doesn't really effect our lives much (except if Dallas wins ), so who really cares? I know I don't since I'll be in Hawaii for two weeks and I'll probably miss the All-Star game anyway.
Props to Luongo. Regardless of whether or not their pregnancy has complications, he has his priorities and he sticks to them. The All-Star game is a meaningless exhibition and I'm sure he's honored to have been selected, he deserves it. Any regular season games he may miss can be taken up with his employer, much like you and I would do.
Leykis can suck a lemon. He epitomizes misogyny and is an embarrassment to the testicled contingent of our human race. It's pathetically sad that his views are taken seriously by some, and I wouldn't be upset in the slightest if he were to disappear from the face of the earth.

the reason I think he's a pussy is solely based on his one ice behavior
