Excellent game.
Adverse conditions.
Lots of hitting.
Lots of skill.
A circus move by Sid the Kid.
73,000 crazy fans.
Superb goaltending.
Shootout.
What a way to

Yeah, it was a great game. Too bad the conditions weren't a little better but they did a great job all things considered.
It was also good to see Buffalo wearing the uniforms they SHOULD be wearing all the time instead of those buffaslug jerseys. The Pens unis were pretty sweet too.
Sick to think the Ducks were one slip of the ping pong ball away from getting Sid.
How ****ing horrible would that have been?

I didn't like all the breaks - really disrupted the flow of the game. I know it was necessary to clean up the ice, but yea - I didn't love the outdoor game and wouldn't mind if the NHL never had another one.

I frigging loved watching that!! It was awesome. I loved the whole thing.
Agree with Slee, thank God the duckies didn't end up with Sid. He went where he was really, really needed. He will bring Pittsburgh, a great hockey town, back.

I really enjoyed watching the game; and I did not even care who won! The adverse weather conditions made it all the more exciting. Did you notice how they seemed to be promoting the 'tough' aspect of hockey? They spent the first intermission talking about Slapshot and the second talking about the shoe beating! I guess because it was the Winter Classic they wanted to make it feel old school. Though I am not a big fan of the NHL's marketing, this was a great marketing plan. The game aired right after the Rose Bowl Parade (different channel) on New Years Day. The huge stadium was a sellout and the fans were loud. The only things missing were "Superbowl" style entertainment and knockdown dragout bench clearing brawl.

scott burnside is reporting the nhl right now is thinking about the possibility of an every other year outdoor game. as well as montreal wants to celebrate their 100th year outdoors next year
It was definitely worth waking up for at 10 AM. The only things I disliked was how much times I had to hear them drooling all over Crosby. You'd think Crosby was their god or something.
Plus the fact that NBC kept mentioning the word shootout every few minutes led to the obvious ending.

Yep...
But there were some nice things about it, the main reason I watched it for example is that it started at 7 PM here in our timelane...
Look I am the first in line to bash Bettman...but this was magic. The coverage was huge. Even from nonsport outlets. I am not the biggest fan of Sid the kid...but this was a marquee matchup and for once the NHL did it right. And yes...you couldn't have scripted a better ending. From Doc (sorry Goallum) calling the game, Panger roaming the sidelines and the priceless footage of the 'shoe-beating' a lot of the greater aspects of the game were showcased. For once the NHL didn't sanitize the game for the novice fan. All-in-all I don't think things could have been better.
