I tend to agree with Simon's assessment. The intent is there in both his and Pronger's incidents: trying to injure another player with a sharp metal object. Either way, eight games was WAY too low.
Simon had a 20 game suspension BEFORE the 30 gamer he received. Pronger's longest suspension prior was 4 games IIRC. It was in the middle of play. It was a different situation.

prior to his 25-game suspension, Simon's longest suspension was 3 games.
i listened to the two chuckleheads on Vs. explain away Pronger's situation after the Colorado/Minnesota game and Engblom emphasized what a number have people indicated and was also used in determining BOTH of Pronger's suspension during last season's playoffs... the fact that games mean more now than they did in December (when Simon got jabbed for 30 games), and that playoff games mean even more.
last season Simon was suspended for (a MINIMUM) 25-games on March 8th and the Islanders were fighting to get into the playoffs and subsequently ended IN as the 8th seed over Toronto by one point. no superstar mind you, but Chris was having a decent season (actually his best in 5-years) and was an important part of the Islanders' third line, averaging 11 minutes a night.
now had his hit on Hollweg taken place in December, would Chris have gotten 50 games?
The Islanders are seventh in the Eastern Conference, two points ahead of the Rangers and Carolina at the playoff cutoff. If the Islanders go the distance in all four rounds of best-of-seven series, Simon would miss a total of 43 games.

So if Simon should be banned for life, but you agree with him that he was mistreated or that Pronger was given star treatment, then should Pronger have received 3-5 years without possibility of parole?

The banned for life thing is so subjective. Being a star in this sport puts asses in the seats and money in their pockets, so of course they're going to be protected. It's completely unfair, but then we all knew that when McSorley was banned for life and Bertuzzi was welcome to return.
I agree with Simon 100%. I think Simon and Pronger are the same kind of player -- Pronger just happens to be more revered than Simon. They both have 8 suspensions under their belt and each one of them should be out for the season after stomping on a players leg with a skate blade -- especially in light of Zednik's injury.
A great example of Pronger's "star treatment", aside from comparing his actions to Simons, is comparing his 2 elbowing suspensions in the playoffs last year -- where he got 1 game a piece -- to Laraque's recent elbowing suspension where he got 3 games. Laraque's hit on Paetsch and Pronger's hit on McAmmond are virtually the same play. Yet, Laraque gets 2 extra games?! Here they are:
If the time of season and the teams involved mattered than wouldnt it matter that Kessler is on a team that is in the playoff race? No one thinks of the other player involved. pronger is a POS and one day it will come to him.
