The irony is that while it may be necessary to trade a player to free up “tagging” space for next season, the chances of Niedermayer coming back to play next season are slim to non-existent. Those close to Niedermayer believe that he will play the balance of this season but isn't at all likely to play next season.
Man, what a clusterf***!

Burke definitely wants to move Schneider's contract but I can't see anyone taking that one. Beauch and OD both make in the 1.6M range so I'm not sure how much cap relief they'd get by moving either.
The Ducks are not in a good place right now.

So your saying the only reason he signed Schneids was because he thought that SN was going to retire? I doubt that.
The snag in this could be the extension that they gave to Getzlaf (and Kunitz for that matter). The "float" on next years cap is the problem, not this season's salary cap. Combined those two account for $9M against the Cap next season, which with SN returning looks to be close to $53M.
He is gonna come back and be average until the postseason, then be a huge part of whatever they do in the playoffs after he gets his legs and be a hero if they have a good run. great career of hard work, but what a lazy and selfish thing to do, skip training camp, all those practices and a huge chunk of the year then come back at such on oh so perfect time and leave one of your teammates in the dust, wow.

Oh, and Corey Perry isn't signed yet.
11 Million dollars over 2 years for a 38 year old defenseman does not seem like a wise move if you think Scott is coming back. If he felt like Niedermayer would return this season Burke committed 18.625 Million cap dollars to 3 defensmen for this and next season while Getzlaf and Perry needed to be re-upped.
Right here man. Plain and simple Schneider is the one that needs to go. His contract will kill the team next season. I'd like to keep all 3 but it's not likely.
Funny thing is, if you jettison Schneider and Niedermayer retires for good next season we are right back to where we started except we would be carrying the $4mil albatross that is better known as Bertuzzi's contract.
I'd like to look into the numbers but honestly, I'm effing lazy right now.

i think it would be in terrificly poor taste to do that to a player like Mathieu Schneider... that MAY also possibly have a bad side-effect in terms of signing future free agents.
