Should this be legal?

It's brilliant strategy, but it takes an ultimate douchebag to do it.

Yeah, I dunno. It would certainly be interesting to hear what was said, and I could totally see Drury telling him o knock that **** off. It was rather comical though.

Bandit is pretty bright. - Maddogg420, 15 minutes later
He definately got in his head though, but should have received a 10 min misconduct based on the letter of the rule. No penalty, just off the ice for 10.
I did think it was funny as hell, but someone does that to me and I'm gonna clock them.
I don't believe for a second it was illegal, and there should be no penalty for this, no 10 minute misconduct, nothing. Ron McLean's suggesting that there should be is much more of a douche move than what Avery did, IMO.

If it was not illegal, the ref, along with Chris Drury, would not have warned him to knock it off. It's not an automatic thing but it's ref's discretion and I agree with the ref giving him a warning before giving him 10.
As I stated before, absolutely brilliant stuff from Avery.
Why should that be a penalty? I'll tell you why: Because it was Sean Avery doing it. Nothing more, nothing less. If it was Crosby or Ovechkin who came up with that, they would be lauded over and over for "originality" or "tenacity" or "paying the price" or "being a warrior" or "doing whatever it takes to (help your team) win."
Those TSN guys are such wank-uhs. What's the difference if he is facing Brodeur or not? If he was facing the blue line and doing the same thing, maybe this wouldn't be such a big deal. He could periodically check over his shoulder to see where the goaltender is and simply re-position to continue to screen the goaltender.
He wasn't goading the other team into taking a penalty, as the end of Bandit's clip shows on screen. If it is a penalty in the league's eyes, then any defender who continually cross-checks a forward in the small of the back, the shoulder blades, or the back of the head, should also be penalized. Any goaltender who continually slashes a player in the skates, the calves, the groin, the back, etc, should also incur a penalty.
As long as the player is not in the crease, he should be allowed to establish position.
I remember a goal this year where a goal was dis-allowed because Tomas Holmstrom did not allow the goaltender to COME OUT ON TOP OF THE CREASE to establish position. There was no penalty on the play, but the goal was dis-allowed. Bull****. It was either a goal or goaltender interference; Cut and dry, black and white, no in-between. I couldn't believe the call made by the referee. As a result, Detroit lost the game, but should have taken it into overtime as a result of a great play by Holmstrom.
I am so sick of the NHL talking about how they want to increase scoring, but then not putting their money where there mouth is. If they want the goalie to be able to "establish position", make the ****ing crease bigger. It's as simple as that. If you don't want a player frantically waving his hands in front of the goaltender, put it in the rulebook.
No wonder why casual fans don't become more die-hard. This league can't even get its own rules right; They rely on interpretation. That's where the problems begin.
You have a panel of "experts" who whine, bitch, and moan about everything that's wrong with the game. Shut the **** up! YOU are part of the problem!!! How do you think a fan is going to react to all of the
