Nope, nothing in the NBA rulebook regarding face-guarding. Shane Battier does it all the time.

(Note: Dodgers, Braves and Cardinals fans everywhere are nodding and saying, "Yup ... been there, done that.")
there wasnt a rule against it because nobody ever thought someone would ever pull a circus act like that, if he wants to pull crap like that then he should work on a career in the nba or nfl.
Please! This game is a game of cheap shots!!! EVERY single game has them, so don't make it sound like this is the "beautiful, skills only" game. Plenty of NHL goons to match the NBA and NFL!
m. Eye guarding (placing a hand in front of the opponent’s eyes when guarding from
the rear) a player who does not have possession of the ball is illegal and an unsportsmanlike technical shall be assessed.

Battier doesn't do this. He faces up to his player and puts his hand in their face as they take a shot.
And regarding Avery, I thought it was pretty funny. He sure knows how to get under the skin of opposing players.

I never said he did. and putting your hand in the face of the guy with the BALL is okay. putting your hand in the face of the person without the ball is a technical foul.
again, it's cheeseball crap that doesn't belong in the game. nor did the ride-along hooks that used to exist as well (thank god those are gone).
this has nothing to do with sean avery with me, it could be crosby doing the same thing. that **** doesn't belong.
Avery's shenanigans would probably fall under the unwritten player's code of conduct; that's probably why Drury was yelling at him. He's such a ****ing dick, though, that he just craves attention in those braindead moments he has.
I gotta give Avery credit for originality. And it was damned funny! He kinda reminds me of a Dennis Rodman, crazy, irresponsible & annoying as hell at times (okay, most of the time), but talented, ultra-competitive, and a definite PRESENCE. I miss him...
The ruling today was absolute crap IMO. Like I said before, there are worse things that are done in hockey yet nothing is done about them and yet they pick on this incident because it's Avery. I'm not an Avery apologist but he has every right to get into the goalie's head if he's not physically touching him. How come he's allowed to get into the heads of other players? Are you telling me fighting or skating by the opposing team's bench and **** talking is sportsmanlike? How come that ass clown Bertuzzi is still playing?
