Let's see how they feel about him after the playoffs.
Anyone remember from a few years back when Kubina was still with the Lightning, and they parked him in front of the net on a power play where he proceeded to screen the goalie by waving his glove in front of the goalie's mask?

I believe in the NBA, you get a technical foul for purposely obstructing vision (not just putting an arm out to defend a pass, but to put it right in someone's face to purposely block their eyes).
in the NFL, the defense gets a pass interference call if they put their hands in the eyes of a receiver trying to catch the ball (instead of making a play on the ball).
this **** doesn't belong in hockey. that's absolute garbage. And the NHL network guys showed a closeup on Drury with him saying "stick down".

Oh noes!!!
Are you trying to tell us that Avery was not the original douche to attempt this?!!?
But it was soooo brilliant, only he could come up with something so crazy!
I thought is was funny as well because it reminded me of a co-worker who I used to play hockey with. We had a boss from Canada who actually sponsored our team as long as the majority of players were from work. My buddy hadn't played any hockey before so we played roller to start off.
During one game someone explained to him the concept of trying to distract and or obscure the goalie's sight lines. He went out and did the same thing Avery was doing minus the arm motions. Guess he was a little taller than Avery. Just kept face to face with the goalie.
Well the play goes back into our zone and he is still in the goalie's face. The goalie finally says something like "hey idiot we have the puck, go help your team." He replies in an even toned warrior like voice, "They didn't tell me to chase the puck, they told me to stand in front of you."
That's all he did until his shift was up! We didn't score of course but is was worth a good laugh.
Avery is great. If anything he is taking a huge risk at being knocked in the back of the head by a puck. He already knows he is a target, so why not just exploit it? He's got three goals already, for a player like him to have that many is pretty awesome.
Here's a guy that I know hates the other team. Its rare to see it these days.
There is nothing wrong with this as far as the rules go. What is the difference between this and smack talking to a player? We see trash talk all the time in hockey, this is no different. Just because it's a goalie, or just because it's Sean Avery doing it shouldn't make a difference. If the league (Bettman and company, the guys on CBC/TSN/NHL Network) don't like it, then they first need to address the agitator role all together. I saw the guy on the NHL Network tonight saying how it's not with the spirit of the game. Is what Ian Laperriere does in the spirit of the game then? That guy doesn't close his mouth for more that 3 seconds. Avery did not touch Brodeur, nor did he go too far with his words as far as we know. I wouldn't do it, but if he wants to, it's a brilliant move. I'll be pissed if the NHL decides to create a rule about it right now since whenever they do decide to change a rule that doesn't need to be changed, it happens in the off season.

I think it was flipping brilliant! I am glad that he found a team where the fans seem to appreciate his efforts. He did get in Brodeur's head and as long as he is able to not let his emotions get the better of him, he will end up being the difference maker in this series.

This difference is that Avery tried to block him with a high stick pointed at his face. There is a rule about high sticks. If you can't score a goal, hit someone, etc., with a high stick, you shouldn't be able to point and threaten someone with it.
I Brodeur...
And the Devils are the only other team I care about, if only a little.
But I love how much Avery ****s with him.
He isn't touching him...it's hilarious and it worked.
His tactics/antics transcend the ice...redefining the agitator roll.
Pissing Mother****ers off coast to coast.
but if you see any kid in a bantam league do that he gets his ass whooped then quite possibly is benched because it's so ridiculous. If you know how to do your job correctly you don't need to resort to antics like that. I bet anything he was on the bench and pulled a "Hey, watch this shift" and totally did it for the attention it would get him. Attention Whores do things like this for no other reason than the spotlight and he got his wish.
Exactly..... The Avery hate is extreme on this board (and many others), but in all honesty, what he did right there is funny as hell. I see nothing wrong with it, since the rules don't clearly state that it's legal or illegal. Absolutely brilliant. If it gets the job done, why not? Got to love me some Sean Avery clips... The most talked about guy not in the top twenty scorers in the league.... That HAS to mean he's doing something right.....? Good or bad.....
I think facing the goalie and screening him with your body is cool, but waiving your stick in his face like you might slash him is another. He's creative...........ya gotta give him that. Hes the only person in the league stupid enough to try it in the existence of the league. If theres no rule against it.......its fair game. The league should take steps to make the slashing motion of the stick illegal but the newly established screening method by Avery should be allowed.
