As I stated before, absolutely brilliant stuff from Avery.
Why should that be a penalty? I'll tell you why: Because it was Sean Avery doing it. Nothing more, nothing less. If it was Crosby or Ovechkin who came up with that, they would be lauded over and over for "originality" or "tenacity" or "paying the price" or "being a warrior" or "doing whatever it takes to (help your team) win."
Are you saying that because Sean Avery was the first douche-bag to do it that it should be legal then?
Fine, it's legal.
The Devils will then do it to Lundqvist and then every other team will do it to every other teams' goalie and the sport becomes a laughing stock.

It will be interesting to see if Avery tries it again in Game 4. And if he does, it'll be interesting to see if the Devils get Avery while they're on the PP, and if they decide to... maybe aim his direction and hope for any "misdirections". You know, just aim at his midsection and fire away. Well, you know... that would be a brilliant stretegy, wouldn't it?
And that would sink pretty low, wouldn't it? Eh, but who cares... as long as you can't prove it! Brilliant strategy

there wasnt a rule against it because nobody ever thought someone would ever pull a circus act like that, if he wants to pull crap like that then he should work on a career in the nba or nfl.

Exactly..... The Avery hate is extreme on this board (and many others), but in all honesty, what he did right there is funny as hell. I see nothing wrong with it, since the rules don't clearly state that it's legal or illegal. Absolutely brilliant. If it gets the job done, why not? Got to love me some Sean Avery clips... The most talked about guy not in the top twenty scorers in the league.... That HAS to mean he's doing something right.....? Good or bad.....
Brilliant? More like idiotic. Why add fuel to the Devils fire? You think they were playing with passion before.. wait until the next game.
The Devils won in OT, and probably will win the next 3 games in a row thanks to this. We'll see, but I think NY just cost themselves a series win thanks to Avery's "antics".
Embarrassing for the league and the Rangers.

Douchebags have been known to have won Conn Smythe once or twice...

g. A misconduct penalty shall be imposed on any player who persists in any course of conduct (including threatening or abusive language or gestures or similar actions) designed to incite an opponent into incurring a penalty.
"Similar actions" is a vague term that could be used in this instance.

n. A minor penalty shall be imposed on any player who is guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct including, but not limited to hair-pulling, biting, grabbing hold of a face mask, etc.
Etc. is also a vague term that could be used in this instance.
It's up to the discretion of the referee at this time, to be addressed in more detail by the league within their time-frame, if necessary.

True, but was he trying to draw a penalty? I seriously doubt it. They were already on a 5 on 3. Looks to me like he was just trying to distract Brodeur.
