Allrighty then, where's that Cloutier Super 8 thread and all the "hey, teh CBA sez it's so, so it's so" posts?

The league is using it as a lever against Burke, for attempting to tap dance around the CBA. I think the plan, all along, was to have both Neidermayer and Selanne better rested for the playoffs by skirting the rules and joining the team late in the regular season (in his case alone; Selanne was UFA).
I think Neidermayer probably would have sat out longer, but had to come back because the Quacks were in serious jeopardy of missing the playoffs altogether. It was only after his return that they started winning consistently. It also showed what a non-factor Pronger actually is.
His pay was suspended by the club, but if this rule states that there should be a fine, he should be fined. Burke should have anticipated this from the start if he's going to bend the rules...

I think they're also doing it to prevent other players from getting the idea that it's OK to take half a season off while still under contract. Although if anything I suppose it could drive an unsure player into retirement because they have to make up their mind before they're really ready.
umm...if he had permission, then there is no fine, as clearly stated in the CBA...this is retarded. I think that rule is in there to punish the players that hold out that are under contract, like alexei yashin

Who gave him permission? Didnt the Ducks suspend him with no pay for not reporting? That doesnt sound like permission to me.
He'll end up paying less than half of that. The real question is, why the hell did the league wait so long? Why is this only coming up now???

From worst to first? Quite possibly.
