About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. They need to win the shootout to keep their faint playoff hopes alive...
He's right... and the craziest part about it is that all the people upset about giving the extra point to the "loser" have it backwards.
The reason it's insane is that the WINNER is getting an extra point they don't deserve.
Losing and OT/SO losing are differentiated in the standings... but not the wins. So you get a completely twisted view of your record.
Look at the standings and ask yourself how its possible that all but 5 teams have "winning" records.
That has nothing to do with the shootout, but the points system. It should be 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an OT/Shootout win, and one for an OT/Shootout loss. All games hand out the same number of points. Problem solved.

Just keep that in your sig to reference every time people tie the point system's failings to shootouts.

which is better than "two points for a loss, one point for a tie" how exactly?
Because you need to see somebody "win"? Even though your system acknowledges that a shootout win isn't equal to a regulation win?
