Compared to the contract he's on right now i bet he's seeing stars. I also think he would be committing career suicide. I'll be very interested to see how this plays out.

I dunno about career suicide.
Did playing in the USFL kill Steve Young's career? Jim Kelly's?
Injury is a concern, of course, but that's true regardless where he plays. If I was advising him, I'd advise him to take the money, play in Russia for 4-5 years, then come back to North America, join a Cup contender, and satisfy whatever non-financial career goals he may have.

If he(or they) do in fact have intentions of returning perhaps not, but if he intends to stay there he'll make a grip of money but still be playing in a Sub-NHL league. I'm sure they have a big fan base but i highly doubt it can even hold a candle to the NHL. So really he would just vanish off the radar (so to speak).
For the record Steve Young and Jim Kelly weren't THAT good. Nowhere near the skill level as Malkin in comparison to his peers-- Young less so then Kelly. Young did get screwed over with injuries though. In 25 years though i dont see either of those players being someone you look back on as one of the greats of football.
In addition I don't think he'll be missing any meals at 8 or 9 million here. Dunno bout him personally but i dont think these guys say "i wonna play hockey so i can make lots of money". More money is always better obviously, but I personally think it would be rather silly to jump off the NHL to join the Super League.
