About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Rolston to return to New Jersey with four-year contract
Why can't the NHL have more of these contracts? That's a perfect price and perfect length for the player.
Sorry, but this is the kind of crap the Kings used to pull. Rolston is ok for another couple of years, but he is definitely on the other side of the hill. He is still a 30 goal scorer, but 4 years is too long IMHO.

don'tcareI'mhappy...never shoulda let him go in the first place. And Frankenstein Holik facing down opposing centers...woo hoo we have 4 solid lines again...hopefully Gionta and Elias will remember which end of the stick to use...and,well...could be nice

Being that Rolston's jersey number is part of many of passwords, I'm pretty damn happy to have him back on the team. Wasn't a huge fan of trading him in 1999, but that was in part due to the impending expansion draft and the Devils couldn't protect everybody.
Giving four years to a 35 year old is a scary proposition, so hopefully Rolston can age gracefully. The Devils had two gaping needs: Another top 6 forward and a big shot from the point during power plays. Rolston fills both of those roles.
Holik was also overpaid, but at least it's only a year and he's certainly an upgrade over Rod Pelley. Ideally the Devils can now dump Vishnevski and trade for a puck moving D. But I think that's easier said than done at this point.
Devils are also a lot closer to the cap than I had expected, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Vishnevski (2 years, 1.8 mil/year cap hit) or Gionta (1 year, 4 mil) get moved. Not sure if he's ready, but it'd be nice to see Nicklas Bergfors take Gionta's spot and produce similar stats at 20% the price. Pipedream would be to send both to Vancouver for Kevin Bieksa. Knowing that Vishnevski/Salvador make a combined 4.7 million when Brian Rafalski probably would have stayed for 5.5 million makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

Too bad it's 2008 instead of the late '90s.
