Exactly how does it help the league to have Crosby in Pittsburgh?

I've been hearing the rumblings insisting that Stamkos will wind up in Toronto because the league rigs the big lotteries and the Crosby draft is given as example... DESPITE the fact that everyone had Crosby going to New York or other large markets.

Pittsburgh is the 22nd largest television market in the nation and sports a population smaller than all 6 Canadian teams.

So why does the NHL need the Penguins?

I think you'll certainly hear an outrage crying conspiracy if Stamkos goes to Toronto, especially if Toronto finishes 28th or higher.

Actually, you might also hear conspiracy talk if Stamkos goes to the Kings. LA is, after all, a big market.

Crosby saved the franchise.

A storied franchise that was meeting it's complete demise,
It's not healthy for one of your most honored teams to fold up and leave.

I think Stamkos will be a Maple Leaf for sure, through trade of draft - and he won't perform to the unreal bar that will be placed upon him as a "generational talent" label that Toronto needs to sell it's nosebleeds at $600 per seat.

I always find it humorous that the conspiracy theorists think that Bettman is keeping the NHL out of Canada, and yet the most unscrupulous franchise that puts money before hockey more so than any other team are the epitome and center of the Canadian hockey.
