The Calgary Flames announced Wednesday that the club has signed defenceman Dion Phaneuf to a six-year contract extension.

Sources tell TSN that the deal will average $6.5 million US a season. Phaneuf will make $7.5 million in the first year, followed by $6.5 million in year two, $7 million in the third season, $6.5 million in each of the following two years and $5.5 million in the final season.

Canadian dollar will probably be worth more now than later...

That deal is a steal for Calgary, getting Dion for relatively cheap money, compared to what he could have got on the UFA market.
