About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Penguins file for salary arbitration with Fleury
that's one way to get it done...
It is a pretty good move, with their impending cap issues it wouldn't be hard to see some team offering him $5-6.5 million or something and making the Pens think twice about matching. It does guarantee that he will be with the team next season and gives them more time to work with him without having to shell out elite money to him just yet.

true, but the only drawback is if Pittsburgh is unable to sign him longterm by his hearing date, Fleury can select a one-year deal to indemnify himself against an award that isn't in his favor thereby opening up the option of offer-sheets the following summer and Pittsburgh will be in a tighter spot.

I've always said it was a positive move, that Cammalleri filed for arbitration and not the Kings. Some people see it as attitude issue...
I don't actually see, why would the player file for arbitration in this spot? Is there ANY positive thing he gets out of it?

so if a team taking a player to arbritration means the team really wants to keep him, what does it mean when a player takes a team to arbritration? because, in either case, a RFA offer cannot be made to the player.
what am i getting at? (you'll hate me)
cammy chose arbritration knowing damn well he'll have to almost 100% stay a king for at least two more seasons (because he had two more before he could be a UFA). so why do people hate him if he WANTS to be a king?

Exactly.
This is how I'm understanding it... one side takes the other to arbitration and the other side decides the length of the award. However the club can take the player to arbitration only once. For player it's actually BETTER that club takes him to arbitration. This way he can choose one year award if he doesn't like it and the club can't take him to arbitration next season.
Basically if player files for arbitration he says "I'd like to stay with the club, I don't care about offer sheets, I'm giving club the decision about the contract length (based on how club is happy with the award) and they can take me to arbitration again, if they choose 1-year contract and wish to try their luck next season."
Lombardi was the guy who actually said Cammalleri's decision to file for arbitration was positive and it showed his commitment to the club.
I really don't get why people are hating Cammalleri BECAUSE he filed for arbitration. I must have been missing something?

Wow, and i was expecting to get blasted for that post.
I'm sure if it was in the right forum (home ice) some cammy haters would have read it and ripped me a new one.

cammi DID ask for 6 million and DL countered with i believe around 2 million. now, i don't know how the hearing works, but i GUESS he asked for 6 million so he could get SOME money out of it.

Yep. And DL offered 2 million so he wouldnt have to pay through the roof. its called negotiations. Everyone does it. Even Dustin Brown did it.
