About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. ... for Commodore and Stillman as per TSN.ca
TSN : NHL - Canada's Sports Leader
I don't know. Carolina didn't do too bad considering they dumped two potential UFA's for good up and coming player (Eaves) and a slightly overpriced offensive d-man. I like the move on both ends. Commodore gives OTT some more toughness on the blueline, not to mention SC experience. Same with Stillman who can still pot the timely goal. Carolina had to retool and this helps them get younger.
Great move by the Senators. I've never been enamored by Eaves and Stillman gives them their biggest second line scoring threat since they lost Havlat.
Commodore is a great addition as well, in Meszaros and Redden they have 2 very capable puck movers and since Alfredsson can man a point on the PP, they have some leeway in getting some extra muscle on the blueline.
I like Commodore a lot, solid stay at home man, opposing teams tried their best to avoid icing their #1 line against the Phillips-Volchenkov shutdown pair and if they did so were able to attack more offensive pairs. With Commodore in the fold, the Sens have another shutdown guy, gives them more flexibilty in defensive pair switches.
I like this move a lot for Ottawa, not so much for the Canes. I feel like they could have gotten more for Stillman. And even guys like Commodore command a lot at the deadline(see Norstrom). I understand they are still in the race, but this makes them weaker for right now and the future.

I like this trade for both sides. In the long run, losing Eaves will sting.
I don't think it will. It is also worth noting that Ottawa might have had a hard time finding the space to sign him during the off-season. Eaves, Vermette, and Meszaros are RFAs this summer and out of the 3 Eaves is the least valuable to the team.
Also Fogliano and Hennessey are poised to make the leap to the NHL next year on a full time basis. I don't think losing Eaves is that big a deal.
