long overdue...and i think that the fact that the majority of guys voted in decided to...get a short term injury/family issues/etc...made this years game look even more irrelevant. Either do away w/it altogether and just declare a mid-season 4 day break...or adopt the NFL pro-bowl format and do it after the finals.
Or...if you insist on the current format...make it mean something a la the MLB home-field advantage. ah...there you are

An NFL-style event wouldn't work because there are too many players who live in different countries, as well as those who would be off almost 2 months by the time the playoffs are over.

As for the MLB style with the winning team getting home ice, that's just retarted. The AS game should never decide something that big.

The all-star game sucks.

Less exhibition games, no all-star game, two more regular season games, play every team at least twice, and the coup de grâce, elminating the instigator penalty and the league is a much better place.

Further reduction in the maximum allowance of goalie gear size, along with strict enforcement, wouldn't hurt either.

Oh yeah, no more regular season games away from one of the teams' home, like in Europe, Japan or any other place outside of NA.

Exhibition games, ok, with a week off between the last game away from NA and the next game.

There may be a little more offense in the East than the West this year but it's not much more.

Traditionally, the West has had more offense in the past so, I don't know why Gaborik has such a hard on for the East.
