About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. 1975-1990 (you could go back even farther) was the "dynasty era" with Montreal, the NY Islanders, and Edmonton dominating (Calgary made a special guest appearance in 1989).

1991-2003 was the "two(or 3)-timer era" with Pittsburgh, New Jersey(3), Colorado and Detroit(3) dominating (with Montreal making a residual appearance from its dynasty era, the NY Rangers and Dallas making special guest appearances)
2004-present is the "one-hit-wonder" era with Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Anaheim hitting the last three years. None of those teams is currently in contention to win this year and none of them have really been in any kind of position to repeat.
I think back-to-back cup's might be in the near future. Montreal and Pittsburgh I see being successful again and possibly part of bringing back the repeats.

Ah, but they're in the same conference.
One team may knock out the other one year, then vice-versa the next.
Then there's the Malkin possibly being traded issue and the continued shake-out from the change in the UFA age, it's hard to say if they'll be able to keep the teams together.
Washington will continue to get better, possibly Boston, Buffalo, Carolina, and Philadelphia too, and we're seeing that the Rangers are a playoff threat.
Yes, Montreal and Pittsburgh look good, but they('ll) have plenty of competition.
Then, whichever team comes out of the East still has to deal with whoever comes out of the west.
Even if they alternated winning cups but never repeated, still, it'd be part of a dynasty. "Remeber the late 00's and early 10's when the Pens and Habs were winning all those cups?" see?

Agree?
Two of those one hit wonders made the Cup finals twice in the last handful of years.
