With his team up 2-0 early in the third period, Downie hit Toronto winger Jason Blake - who was being held by an official - in the face with what many are describing as a sucker-punch.
The hit left a large golf ball-sized welt under Blake's left eye, which didn't sit well with Leafs head coach Paul Maurice.
While Downie received a minor penalty for the punch, the NHL is investigating the incident.
As a Canadian, I've never liked that hit, even though I know Downie played it up a little. However, in light of Downie's actions so far this year, I'd have to agree with you.
Typical Campbell, how about showing some balls and giving Downie another 5 games. The Flyers need to be sent the message that this type of goonery will not be tolerated.
What happened to Campbell's get tough bs after the last Flyers suspension?
Check out what this clown did in junior, sucker punching an opponent during a center ice faceoff. Guess Bobby Clarke liked em tough and dumb when he picked him with the 29th overall pick.
"When he went after Blake, I loved it," Clarke told TSN.
"Blake was a guy who had no problem going out and saying (Downie) should be suspended for life or suspended for the year," he explained, referring to Blake's reaction last September to the McAmmond incident. "When you say something that stupid, why shouldn't this kid go after him for it?"
