About This Page: This is a discussion on NHL Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. For a second Brodeur thought he was Chris Terreri and BOOM, a goal is scored against NJ. I cringed at that goal.
Lundqvist once again had a very strong outing, and is not 8-0-1 with a 1.00 GAA against the Devils this season. The Devils have struggled with scoring all season long, and it doesn't look like their forwards will be able to keep up with the immense scoring depth of the Rangers. While the Devils basically shut down Jagr and Drury last game, the Rags got contributions from Avery, Gomez, and Shanahan. It didn't help that Madden and Martin didn't play very strong in the defensive zone. Seems like the only chance the Devils have of taking this series is if Brodeur is unstoppable from here on out, and if Parise, Elias, and Gionta can step things up and produce better than they did during the season. Otherwise, it seems like the Rangers should have no problem making it to round 2.
Hrm, hopefully they decide to take Gionta off the Pandolfo/Madden line. Seems like a bit of a waste considering we can't score. Has anybody seen Travis Zajac lately? Ugh.
Final score made it seem more lopsided than it was. Brodeur's brainfart pretty much changed the momentum of that game. Gomez was flying throughout and the Rangers did a good job of picking on Bryce Salvador who had been out for the last few weeks. Both teams seemed a little sloppy defensively which led to a more wide open game than anticipated.
I missed most of the first period, so perhaps that happened. The Rags PP was very formidable, though. NJ may or may not out defense them, which as we know wins championships, but NY is certainly out offensing them, from the two periods I watched.

not gonna go punk bitch...or Avery, if you wanna call a spade a spade...My boys shortcomings finally caught up to em. Inability to score at opportune times...Brodeur being overworked...Gionta/Elias not living up to(apparently over-)expectations based on 1 good season...and Sutter's inability to balance offense/defense.
That being said...Lou has no choice but to address the scoring woes in the off-season and maybe let Sutter have his way as far as opening up the team. John Mclean is not a suitable offensive coach. Minor tweaks can be made to change this team up and get them into the 'New NHL'...oofa my boy Maddawg just scored...attaboy Johnny...
I gotta say it...and please do not take this as sour grapes...because the Rags have outplayed us so far...but, frikkin Queen Henry is Giguere like in his inflated pads...did he get those at the Garth Snow frikkin garage sale or what?????

How bad was the refereeing in the final 2 minutes of that game. That was awful. If you call Langenbrunner for that hook on Shanahan you have to call Betts for the hold on Martin. That was just ugly.

Also, what the **** was that icing while the Devils are on the PK? Plus those two crappy non-calls after they call Brunner for the hook. Madden was definitely justified in all his yelling.

look...you can bitch about the ****ty non-calls etc...and I will gripe about how Queen Henry has pads so big he has to have the air let out of him at the end of games...but the simple truth is...my boys cannot score. You can take all of the long shots/shots at 2 defensemen covering the side o'the crease, etc...if you aren't screening/running/or, at the very least, not not shooting at the chest of the goalie...you aren't going to score. My boys had a good run...we exceeded expectations and made the most of limited talent. I am very proud. My only regrets are that Brodeur is going to waste another year and we may(and I say may...because it ain't over yet...) get bounced by the Rags...11 years of playoffs,3 stanley cups...and a philosophy
