Maybe, maybe not. Most of the recent flag burnings were done in protest to the anti-flag burning laws that were being put into place. Had they not protested this way, who knows how things would've turned out. Maybe they don't get the same press and maybe we end up living in a country where you can go to jail for burning a piece of fabric.
If you don't think people are stupid for burning/desecrating the things that are the very symbols of their right to do so, then that's where we disagree.
I mean, come on, it's like going on a hunger strike to prostest annorexia. It's moranic.

Your incoherence is astounding.
If you don't offer free speech to people with whom you disagree, why offer it all? Get it, kiddo?
You don't have to like them, just as I don't have to like jingoistic halfwits who think that loving a piece of fabric is all that's required of their duty to their country. Here's a thought: try embodying the ideals you espouse. Talk is cheap.

I wouldn't say they are stupid in the sense they got their message out loud and clear. Had they burned photocopies of the constitution I doubt they'd have gotten much press. The flag is a symbol of freedom, and the burning of the flag is one of the most extreme exercises of that freedom. Personally, I find all the pseudo-patriotic crap much more offensive. Look at the flags you see flying while driving around - most of them are in piss-poor condition and not up to the very code of displaying a flag, and ironically, should be retired by being burned. Walk around a street after a 4th of July parade and you'll find plastic flags littered on the ground. Or how about all the flags people had on their cars after 9/11 - where are those flags now? In trash dumps with rotting food and baby diapers. The worst part is most of those flags, the "symbols" of America were made in China or Taiwan. I'm getting off topic, but I think many people, and Im not directing this at you, who get their panties in a bunch over flag burning are the same who have very little concept of what the flag represents are are likely to have a tattered, yellowed, flag in front of their house.

I'm sorry you didn't understand. Others seemed to, so I'm going to assume it's you.
Throughout this entire thread, I've never suggested that burning the flag should be illegal. I don't think it should. And as you just pointed, I have the right to not like them, and express that. My idea that people are idiots for burning symbols of their freedom is not invalid, and nobody has come up with a good argument as to why it would be.
People like you go back to 3rd grade and start little name calling because you think it makes your argument better. Here's news: in the real world, it just makes you look foolish.

Yeah, but CBS Sports is teh patrioticest of all teh Sports, because they wear those flag lapel pins still.

I suppose this is because 'stupid' is such a broad word. I think hypocrits are stupid. I think there is hypocracy in burning symbols of the very freedom you enjoy that give you the right to burn the symbols. Something just seems wrong to me there when you do it. Glad you can, but think you're stupid for doing it.
Nobody can say it's not disrespectful, because it's a protest. It's designed to be.
I do agree with you on most of your points, though.
1) They need to be made in the USA, it's just reidiculous if they're not.
2) They should be in good condition
3) I've done the ceremonial burning to retire and respect what it stands for, not to piss on it.
My idea that people are idiots for burning symbols of their freedom is not invalid, and nobody has come up with a good argument as to why it would be..
Actually, it is; this has been pointed out, either directly or implicity, by several people, but you refuse to acknowledge it or maybe you don't understand it.
What are you insisting is that people should not exercise a freedom that they have, but still acknowledge that the freedom exists. THAT'S stupid. Freedoms only exist when they are used. Do us all a favor and think about it.
Burning a flag might be a poor rhetorical strategy, because it offends more than it persuades, but it's not logically incoherent, unlike your position.
You're free to hate them, disagree with them, etc., but don't think you're being logical, because you're not. You're letting your emotions get the better of you and cloud your reasoning. It's a foolish as demanding the national anthem be played before every single sports event and then questioning the "patriotism" of anyone who disagrees with you, like a good lil' fascist should.
Now take that star-spangled stick out of your *** and get on with your life.

This is why you can't argue. Perhaps you're unaware of what "valid" means. Just because you have the right to do something, doesn't mean you're not an idiot for doing so. I have the right to bang my head against
